Weird MAC address in System Log

TTT

Occasional Visitor
I've noticed a pattern of repetitive incidents in the System log of my AC87R (running 376.45) of a MAC address that matches my laptop WiFi adapter's except at the last digit. The repeated log entry is as follows:

dnsmasq-dhcp[688]: DHCPDISCOVER(br0) 8c:a9:82:XX:XX:Xb
dnsmasq-dhcp[688]: DHCPOFFER(br0) 10.0.0.30 8c:a9:82:XX:XX:Xb

The MAC address of laptop WiFi adapter is the same as the X-ed out one above except that it ends with 'a' instead of 'b'. No other Wifi adapter in the network is even made by Intel.

These entries keep repeating almost every minute.

My laptop is connected to the router and to the Internet just fine. My WiFi adapter is not a dual mode adapter. It is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000.

What does a "ipconfig /all" show on your laptop? (Enter command via the Windows Command line; type cmd in the "Search Programs and Files" of your start menu)

I've found two virtual adapters that have that weird MAC address.

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Those are virtual adapters that let windows act as a 'hotspot' for others to connect to the internet. If you are not using that, you can get rid of it with the following command in a 'Run as administrator' command prompt.

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow
