have the power light on ,internet light on , lan 2 light on (nothing plugged in ) lan 1 light on with or without line in and the lights stay solid no matter what I try . Hold down reset button , nothing , hold reset and unplug then plug in power , no change . recovery disc , no change , cannot log in , lights stay solid .
And Asus support for warranty has changed , and not for the better .Really have to jump through hoops , fill out online form , then call service centre that is busy so they have to call you later . What happened to fill out form get email confirmation send out router and you get new one in less than 2 weeks ?

It hasn't changed for me. Last Wednesday I went on to asus.com. Logged it sent an email to technical support saying I had an rt-n66w that wouldn't power on. Friday I got a response with an RMA number. Sent it it out Saturday, scheduled to arrive at their location today.

I also had to RMA an RT-N12 at work a few weeks ago. It took me quite a while to dig up the RMA form on their website, but once I found it, it was all handled through email. Took about 3 weeks to get a replacement router from their Canadian service center.

Any device can be bricked by damages to the hardware.

Or are you saying that you bricked the router by flashing it?

It bricked during/after a flash , second one , first was a RT N66

Okay found a beter page for the warranty application, sent it expecting reply . Yhey sure make it hard ti find , there should be a direct link for warranty application

Exactly how it worked last time , I think I found the right page today through my VIP account , though it didn't work yesterday

I've briked my router as well when I was trying Tomatoe firmware, but after half hour I got it working.

I tossed the CD so I had to download the recovery software from Asus site.

Power off the router.
Plug in lan cable in to router and in to a PC.
Hold the reset button and turn ON the router while holding the reset button.
You have to wait at least 15seconds till you see power light slowly flash.
Release the reset button.
Use the software on your PC to upload factory firmware in to your router.
If it doesn't work the first time, then power off the router and try again.

It took me about 5-6 tries to get it working.

Hmmm,
Worst case is when CFE is damaged. Or it can be debricked most likely.

It might occasionally require the use of a serial cable tho. I've seen cases of corrupted nvram where the CFE would fail to properly handle either the reset button, or initialize the Ethernet interface. A serial cable always worked then, allowing you to enter the CFE, and wipe out nvram.

Did your lan 1 and 2 lights stay on constantly never going out or flash no matter cable plugged in or not , even when using reset button ?

Tried it a few times , the lan1 and lan2 lights stay on with power and internet and never flash , a constant light , even when nothing is connected the lan 1 and 2 lights are lit , none of the lights flash , ever . That and the wireless radio lights never come on , it's going back , not into spending 6 hours getitng it going , I have other things to do .

Hi,
Serial console and/or Jtag. Now I am getting tired & lazy of soldering, LOL!

Well I'm not going to open the case and void the warranty , not yet . As long as there is a warranty I'm not going to open it up , after the warranty is up I'll play with and maybe customize it .
It's strange how the lan ports do not recognize any cable plugged in , the lights on lan 1 and 2 are on constantly cable in or not , 3 and 4 no lights at all line plugged in or not . Radio lights off , never come on . So it's not recognizing lan cables and none of the lights flash when using the reset button , she's dead Jim , dead I say .

Not yet , not while there's a warranty . In 2 years maybe .

I remember seeing the exact same symptoms in the past (from a forum post, where two LAN leds permanently lit), so I suspect it's a diag code being shown by the router.

I agree that at this point a warranty replacement is the best course of action.

I had power light, both WiFi lights were on and lan light was on only for port that had cable plugged to it.

Yeah, don't open the router or you will void the warranty.

That's why I think it is beyond fixing , my lan 1+2 are on all the time cable plugged in or or not , wifi lights are dead , nothing gets them on or flashing .

Think that was me with the bricked RT N-66 about 4 months ago . If it's a diag code I sure would like to know what it's trying to tell me .
