What backup and use solution?

New Around Here
This is my first post, hopefully i'll be able to add some help to people once I know what im talking about.

Anyways, Im looking for a better backup solution.

Some background:

Im a photographer in the UK and currently work on my windows 64bit desktop PC. I have a seperate SATA drive inside the box that holds all my current years work (DISK1). After every job I back that drive up via usb2 to a SATA caddy to DISK2

At the end of the year I move all those files from DISK1 onto a Seagate flex USB3 drive(DISK3). Then I store DISK2 somewhere else safe and sound.

DISK1 then becomes the work drive again and I buy a new backup disk to replace DISK2 and so on.

I then have DISK3, the seagate drive connected to the PC so I have access to the previous years work.

What I would LOVE is a solution that backs up easily, holds all the past years work so I dont have to attach other disks to the computer. This means it would need to be faster that USB2.

Right now I use around 1.5tb per year.

I was originally thinking the DROBO boxes as they let me use different disk sizes and add to it over time. However all this is very new to me so I'd like to get some advice in case im missing something way better.

Budget is also a concern so I cant go nuts on the main box, something less that £400 would be ideal.

Thank you in advance for your help and if you need any more info please ask.

Your current method may be a pain, but it gives you a safe backup because you store the drive "somewhere safe and sound".

You don't want your backup drives to live on the same physical system as your work.

I'd focus on getting rid of the USB2.0 weak link in your current setup, replacing it with at least USB 3.0 or maybe Thunderbolt when Windows product availability improves.
