The one before the netgear lawsuit with the supposed higher power signal ?
Thanks

Same question here!

Do I understand the issue correctly:
A setting of 80mW in v354 did actually send (e.g.) with 100mW
whereas
a setting of 80mW in v372 does send with 80mW?

There is a lot of speculation at the moment as to whether Asus changed anything or not, and what did they change if anything was changed.

Until someone studies the part of the code that are available (the drivers themselves are closed-source), no one can tell for certain if/what was changed.

There are people that have noticed a slow down with newer FW , even the 2nd review on this site shows a bit of a decrease , might have nothing to do with the netgear suit . Would it be okay to use the beta 4.354.29 merlin with the DW turned off . or is this beta FW not stable ?

?

You will have to see the changelog to see what has been fixed/changed. The first thing that would worry me about running older version are the security fixes you'll be missing on (AiCloud, Samba and ACSD on the N66U). There's also been quite a few bug fixes.

Note that if Asus had indeed changed anything, the primary effect would be more on the range than on the speed itself (unless you were at a point where the signal strength was starting to degrade notably).

Thanks , guess I'll live with the newest FW , range is fine for now .

Went back to merlin 4 .354 beta and signal on issider on 5 ghz band went from -77-71 to -65-60 on 2.4 it went from -66-50 to -55 -46 so seeing improvement . Will check throughput over the nexr few days , see if that has improved as well

A cheap tactic by netgear basically because there R6300 router is awful, i owned one for 4 months and sold it in favour of a Asus RT-N66U.

It had nothing to do with speed or power output, it was simply because the Asus is a better router, especially with movable antennas, the R6300 is plagued with firmware trouble and netgear have no interest in supporting the development of firmware nor do they appear to release it to the general public, in fact i thinks its locked down.

Maybe if Netgear looked at how Asus has approached the market with there products and how they seemingly encourage third party support then there products would sell.

I dont normally brand bash but Netgears consumer gear is awful. There business products however i have completely the opposite views on.

rant over, :)
