New Around Here
As of August I changed my old trusty WRT54G to the AC68U. I had some trouble setting it up but it all works, except for 1 thing: I cannot send media files (images, video's and audio messages) through WhatsApp on my iPhone 4. My housemates are having the same problems using Android phones.

The things I have tried already but didn't work (factory firmware):
  • Set "Wireless mode" to Legacy
  • Disabled b/g protection
Since that didn't work, I switched to Merlin in the hope that it would fix my problem. It didn't. The things I've tried using Merlin:
  • Reset to default settings so no old settings were present
  • Set Wireless mode to legacy
  • Disabled b/g protection
  • Disabled WMM
  • Disabled Firewall (enabled logging for dropped packets)
The observations I have made are that sometimes, media files DO send (roughly 50/50). When a media file fails to send, it is impossible to send using WiFi. Using 3G, everything is fine. I also put my old WRT back into place, and it worked flawlessly as well. Since all phones in our house have this problem, I don't suspect the phone is at fault. Things like Telegram, Facebook and Snapchat are able to send media files just fine.

The AC68U is behind an ISP router, which has its DMZ option on and redirect all traffic to the AC68U (not bridged).

I have no clue what is going on and what I can do about it. I appreciate any help very much. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

My first guess:
Did you turn on any of the AiProtection features? If yes, turn them off...

The other ideas:
- What about your DNS settings? As you have router on router you should carefully set DNS on the 2nd one (e.g. Google DNS).
- And for router on router STP (Spanning-Tree Protocol under LAN) could be an option to try...

With kind regards

Hi Joe,

No, I did not turn on any AiProtection features. The only thing I did was run the Security Assesment and disabled UPnP. This setting was disabled on the WRT54G as well so I assume this is not causing the problem.

As for DNS, I don't think that would cause this issue since some files do transfer correctly and some don't. Regardless of that, I did put in 8.8.8.8 just to test and it didn't solve the problem.

I have tried toggling the STP option off (on by default). This didn't help either :(

At any rate, thanks for the input so far :)
