New Around Here
Hello!

We have a house where we use 3 Asus routers with AiMesh.
I would like to place an AP with a completely different SSID on the "Main" Asus router. I would buy an AP for this.
The following product is currently on sale on Amazon:

Netgear WAX220

How good a choice do you think this is?
Apple devices and Playstation Portal + laptops would mostly use the AP.

Without a map of your house and the location of APs/routers and configuration details, it is a little hard to say, but for a reasonable sized house, you will likely add too much RF signal to the environment and degrade existing wireless performance if it isn't already suffering.

Better strategy would be to create a separate SSID on the existing equipment and only allow certain devices on that SSID. Possible that you may need to move to SMB marketed equipment if Asus software is not able to handle.

Have you considered taking one of your current AiMesh devices and using it as an AP instead? The reduced WiFi load on your other routers might mean that another device isn't necessary. Also consider how the segregation will work, you'd probably want your router doing most of the heavyweight WiFi, not the AP. And finally, don't rule out the RP-AX58 (AX3000) - used as an AP you don't have to worry about conflicting capabilities that can cause an issue for AiMesh!
