Hello!

Which motherboard would you recommend me to buy for my NAS.
I have the following requirements:

1: Low power consumption
2: Minimum 4 SATA ports
3: Gigabit LAN

I have a Via VB7002 motherboard in my current NAS, and I'm very satisfied with it, but it has only 100mbit LAN and only 2 SATA ports so I'm looking for a replacement.

I would prefer mini-itx, but form factor is not ultimately important.

Thanks in advance.

How low do you want to go for power consumption? Are you looking for something with an Atom CPU or anything with low power consumption?

Lately I have found that MSI usually has good power consumption with their latest boards. Also Intel has always seemed to have better power consumption with their motherboards than other companies.

I'm looking for a board that will draw around 30W idle (not including disks).

I've looked at the VIA SN18000G and the Intel DH57JG. It seems that the Intel board including a Core i3 540 CPU is about the same price as the VIA with build-in CPU.

I would definitely go for the Core i3 if possible. You should have no problem getting your goal and it will offer the possibility of much better performance.

For reference I just recently setup a Phenom II X4 955 BE with a MSI 890GX motherboard and it idles at about 45 watts. This is with Cool n Quiet enabled and C1E enabled.
