Which RT-AC68U should I keep?

I purchased a RT-AC68U from Amazom about a month ago. About a week ago I submitted a ticket to Asus to let them know that it was rebooting on its own every couple of days. They responded that I should return/exchange it before 30 days with Amazon, so I did. Then I discovered this site and used Merlin's firmware and am now trying 4887. It looks like the rebooting problem is solved, thanks to everyone here! So now I have a month old router that seems stable and a brand new one that came yesterday in an unopened box. Which should I keep? Amazon's instructions say that I have 30 days to return.
I'll appreciate any advice, Thanks again.

If it works; don't take a chance that the unopened box has a defective unit inside.

It is fascinating how Asus customer support works. They knew it was a firmware problem, yet they've told lots of people to return as defective......like it's some kind of hardware problem. Very strange.

Much easier to return the unopened box.

Check with Amazon first. If you return the unopened router, some bonehead might decide that the serial number does not match what they were expecting to see returned from you (that of your original router), and decide that you failed to return the router at all and bill you for it.
