Which should I use as the main router? N66U and AC68U

New Around Here
Currently I have two N66Us wired together, one as the main router and one running in AP mode. I'd like to add an AC68U as an additional wired AP. Is there any reason I should make the AC68U my main router and not an AP? The reasoning behind using it as an AP is that the room where it would be located is where most of our wifi traffic is, while my current N66U router is not centrally located (2nd floor corner office) due to the location of the best incoming coax.

Thanks in advance!

The AC68U is faster and better even for legacy wifi. if it is within your budget and you have very fast internet that MIPS based routers cant keep up and you want to make use of the usb3 port for stuff like file sharing and more cpu intensive stuff than the AC68U is certainly better. However the CPU in these routers are still slower than a dual core x86 at the same frequency so if you need gigabit speed NAS than you should get a dedicated NAS.

The AC68U comes with more features too but i dont know if Merlin keeps the featuresets for all routers he makes his firmware for the same.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions! After reading Tim Higgin's piece, my primary consideration was locating the AC68U in the middle of the heaviest wifi traffic in our house so we could best benefit from the improved N and AC speeds. However, that would mean using it in AP mode and I wasn't sure if I'd be foregoing any network-wide improvements that using the AC68U as the primary router and using my two older N66Us as the APs would do. I have an old seagate HDD on usb and shared on the network, but that will get swapped out for a NAS setup this winter.
