I’m using an Asus RT-AX88U and have a 1gig fibre optic connection. The only two client connected to the 5ghz network are an iPhone 11 Pro and and a 2019 iPad Air.

As long as I’m close to the router everything is perfect, I get a stable connection (500-600 Mbps).

The problem starts when I am far away. The iPhone keep stability and speeds up to approx 200 Mbps but the connection on the iPad is really unstable. Btw, before I had an iPhone X and it worked fine.

I have HE Frameset turned off.
I tried turning off MU Mimo and Beamforming, it may have helped a bit but not entirely.

Any suggestions or tips ?

Are there any adaptive wifi options on your iPad? I had a similar issue with a Samsung tablet. I had to turn off the adaptive wifi option "switch to mobile data" on the tablet to keep it on wifi further away from the router.

I think there is but turned off. All the settings on the iPad are identical to the iPhone

Try reboot your iPad Air. Hope that helps.

It is possible that your iPad is broken. Try using it without a case if you have one.

Hold it differently and see if it improve the situation.
