Ok i got wifi analzyer for android tablet

set the 2.4ghz to channel 1 (no one else on this channel, just me)
and
5ghz to channel 48 (no one else on this channel, just me)

what signal strength should i be getting?

same room
5ghz is -50 dbm
2,4ghz is -40 dbm

That all depends on your WIFI Card/Dongel/Band/Channel

My R7800 gives ~20dbm with my Asus ROG laptop with Intel 7260 WiFi card on both bands.
Like pege63 already said, it all depends. I always use higher channels on 5GHz. Seems to give
better signal strength at distance. I don't have a problem using my laptop around house outside
or inside the attached garage working on cars. Always one router is enough for our needs.

Ok Downloaded inssider

set the 2.4ghz to channel 1 (no one else on this channel, just me)
and change
5ghz to channel 36 (no one else on this channel, just me)

Now getting

same room
5ghz is -33 dbm
2,4ghz is -27 dbm

Cannot seem to get -20 ?

Are these setting I got now any good?

2.4GHz I am on channel 1, on 5GHz band I am on channel 153/53 5GHz signals are always little lower than that of 2.4GHz. 2 level below where HTPC(Dell Precision M4700) is, 2.4GHz 44dbm, 5GHz 56dbm. No problem streaming real time video every day. What is your WiFi card? Try 5GHz on higher channel.
There is no such thing as good and bad like at this distance you should get xxdbm.

I'm sitting about 4 feet away from my R7800 at this moment. On channel 44, I see about -28 -> -30dBm, and on channel 6 I see about -22dBm. Can't be more exact than that with WiFi Analyzer, since wifi varies. And R7800 wireless covers my whole house. Doing better than any router I've had to date.

With inSSIDer (an older, free version) here, the numbers are not as good, but I don't use inSSIDer very much since it isn't portable for me. My laptop doesn't move around, it's a large desktop replacement model *smile*.

It sounds like you're right in ballpark where you should be. Don't worry, just enjoy your wireless! It's working as it should.
