I am on Johns Fork right now so I can not test it myself.

@home I want my smartphone to be connected to my LAN but all connections to the internet should go over TOR. Is it possible?
I want my phone @home never to share my internet IP.

Use Merlin software yes you can do this. Under vpn you can enable Tor. Enable on boot. You’ll need a very beefy router and internet connection as you are going to take a hit on speed naturally. Many services won’t work over Tor so you can specify which devices run on Tor or you can blanket Tor your whole LAN.

If you use specific devices over Tor make sure you give them a static IP behind your router on LAN. think this is done in the LAN tab.

It would however be better to pay for a VPN as you’ll get faster speeds but that depends how annon you want to be. Private internet access - is a good service. It’s like $39 a year and fast. You can load the app on your phone. If you run the VPN on your router, again you need a beefy router. The RT-AC86U would be my recommendation. It’ll max out your internet throughput.

With my VPN active on my phone I still have access to the LAN via Wi-fi.

Thanks, sounds great. Only the phone should use the TOR VPN but also has access to my local LAN.

The Tor nodes are easily overloaded, as evidenced from my log.

No. Tor is intended for web traffic only, not for VPN traffic.
Does this mean it will not work like I had hoped? Is this still the case that only webtraffic is going through TOR if it is used in Merlin Firmware?
My intend is that google never knows my home IP-address through my android-phone...

On my phone I tried the app orbot together with netguard but it is not able to "fool" google about the IP, although it works for non system apps.

With an external VPN with openVPN it works like intended but it is a free one and might not be stable...

In the meantime I tested FreshTomato but its TOR-Function is also not as complete as a VPN, so I guess on Merlin it is the same case, too bad.

Luckily I was wrong, on Merlin the TOR Service acts like a real VPN for everything, at least my phone couldn't tell my real IP.

In the last two days I tested FreshTomato, OpenWrt, DD-WRT (and ASUS-stock) on my RT-AC56U* and they all had one or another nice feature I miss here but in the end Asuswrt-Merlin is superior IMHO.
Is it enough to buy me a new asus-router for around 200 Bugs? I guess no and so I will stick to johns fork but you never know.

*And it was a pain to get them all running and an even bigger pain to get rid of dd-wrt afterwards...
