Here's my 2 test results from my RT-BE96U...
one connected to PIA VPN Montreal and the other connected to Windscribe VPN Montreal

Here's the result on the RT-BE88U when connecting to my single-core high-frequency VPS via WireGuard. It’s using less than half of my ISP’s 2.5G bandwidth, but it’s still pretty impressive

The results in this thread prompted me to try ProtonVPN myself. Here are the results on the GT-BE98 Pro:

Even Bell started to hint at 8 Gbps (until they started sulking because the CRTC wouldn't let them screw everyone over).

Bell seems to be offering it again in my area. No discounts though at 160$ month, which is too bad because I have an ongoing credit of 55$ a month that never expires.

I couldn't possibly see a real life need today for 8Gbps. My entire departments VPN solution for 8000 employees only utilizes about 4Gbps of bandwidth from Bell lol.
I should recommend they switch to their residential plan and save money for everyone.

While I couldn't see a real need unless your hosting mad stuff from home; doesn't mean I'm not interested in a bit of future proofing...

No way in hell. I pay half that for my current 1 Gbps, and it's not with Bell so I don't have a yearly price increase on my bill.

I couldn't possibly see a real life need today for 8Gbps.

In 2025, 8 Gbps for home consumers is nothing but marketing flex from Bell. Even in a business environment as you point out it would probably never get fully used.

Maybe in 6-7 years once you get a sizable establishment of 10 Gbps networks this might start to make any sense. Bell is offering it mostly because XGPON is capable of reaching that speed.

I will agree that is probably the most annoying thing from Bell.

I had to play games with their retentions department to get my monthly credits to be ongoing without it expiring every 2 years. Then had to play more games to get them to lock in the price. They haven't increased it yet on me since; but it's only been year 2 so we'll see soon if I need to deal with retentions again soon.

Oh fully agreed. If the price was right I would be interested in future proofing the network, but at 160$ a month it's just too steep to justify "future" use.

Even at 130 a month as you said, it's a lot when Rogers will offer 3gbps (FTTN not FTTH) for 60$ a month.

Same here for residential lines. Avoiding Bell or Rogers involvement as much as possible.

I JUST GOT 1.5 down 940 up for $55.00 a month with Bell no increase , or so they say $130.00 for 8gb was offered but no need for those speeds now , could have used it 8 years ago when I had 60 gb files to transfer

I did not get the line bell now says no fibre to my house until the snow melts they have to run lines across the street and set up new posts to run the lines to my house. lucky they are a monopoly as they have no idea what they are doing , wish there were better uptions
