New Around Here
I've just installed Asuswrt-Merlin on my RT-AC68U. I'd love to use Wireguard with it but couldn't find any setup/installation instructions. I now from Asus original firmware this model is not supported, but I thought with the Merlin firmware it is.
Is this available or even not planned in future due to some hardware restrictions? I thought as it is not as ressource intensive than openVPN, and that openVPN is supported in all routers that should be possible. Maybe someone can answer me this question and apologize if it already has been answered - but I couldn't find anything related in this forum.

WireGuard requires Kernel v4.1.x on Asus Routers

It will happen eventually. Asus began implementing Wireguard in these recent GPL merges, but they only finalized in their current beta development branch. I'm waiting for that branch to come out of beta and become available as GPL archives to merge it in, and adapt their webui to fit within my firmware.

So, for 386.4, I just kept the module + userspace tool that they already added in this early development, but disabled their unfinished backend and webui implementation.

A thread from late last year asking about Wireguard support on Asus-Merlin.

Article from last year indicating Asus has Wireguard in Beta testing on some of their routers was posted previously to the 386.4 firmware discussion thread.

And over in the Add-On's subforum are threads on the Wireguard Session Manager add-on.

Any luck? ;)

I was replying to the OP who was asking "I'd love to use Wireguard with it but couldn't find any setup/installation instructions." The links provided are what they are.

I personally never tried to run Wireguard on an RT-AC68U. Figured if I wanted Wireguard support, it was better (and easier) to just buy a new router that officially supports it. Or use another device (like Raspberry Pi and similar devices) that supports and or can run Wireguard. Buying a new router has the added benefit of having more capability, features and options than that of the very old RT-AC68U had.
