Those are great transfer rates for wifi. Why look elsewhere? Netgear did a great job with this router.

I like how the Win 7 PC's had faster transfer speeds than the Mac. :D

All the results are using a mac with a broadcom card for the one with the 270mb/s link rate and AR928X card for thr rest. does anyone think it can be higher with an intel based card?

The reason i am looking for a different router with similar performance is because I want a single band router for my uncle's house.

Probably not. Atheros makes the chipset thats inside the WNDR3700 so the client and router are talking EXACTLY the same language. Maybe hunt for a newer Atheros driver. That could help. Even if the Intel is better, it will only be marginally better. You are nearing the max throughput achievable with N300.

I know what you are talking about dude. but I was in doubt as the speeds I posted are downlink. my uplink maxes out at 10 mbps. it's very strange as wndr3700 is also ar98XX based(same as my client) and has a 2X2 radio configuration according to snb preview.

What baffles me most is that the broadcom card is almost 3 years old. it came with the first macbook pro (BCM4321MC mac and BCM2055 tranciever) and even that can recieve ~ 15 MB and send ~ 13.

yes, I do have the latest drivers. it's very strange how a 3 year old card can generate that kind of performance and the routers are able to harness it now.

How were you able to achieve those speeds? I am only getting up to 11.5MB/s from Pc to Mac

I have the following settings:

Macbook - connected via wifi on the 5ghz band
Netgear - set to up to 300mbps with WPA2-PSK [AES]
Pc - wired directly to netgear
Router to MacBook distance - around 10 feet within the same room

I'd like to know some more setup details. Is this transferring files from a device wired to the router to a wireless device?

FYI, I achieved 18.3MBps speeds with the E3000 connected with AE1000 at 5ghz band. It was sending or receiving data from wireless client to desktop machine connected to gigabit port.

I don't remember exactly whether it was sending or receiving data at that speed, but I do remember the speed was not symmetric and the 18.3MBps was the faster of the two.
