XBOX 360 UPnP problem with AC87U

Hi,

I have been having a strange issue with my XBOX360 and AC87U.
My AC87U won't open port 3074 UDP.
I have been testing this on my AC66U and AC68U and have no problem at all with UPNP. (it open the port automatically)
But after I got my AC87U I have been having this problem. NAT problem warning on my XBOX.

I'm running the same firmware version on all my ACXXU routers. 378.54.2

I know that I can use Port Forwarding or Port Trigger, both working on my AC87U.
But i like to know why UPNP is not working like my AC66U and AC68U does?

Can someone please confirm this (test with your AC87U and XBOX360 and see if it opens the port 3074 UDP automatically?

Thanks

Can you check if the port actually appears on the port forwarding tab on the system log page?

If it does, try disabling hardware acceleration/NAT acceleration. There have been reports of port forwarding not working when this is enabled. And since it's proprietary closed source stuff, it's up to broadcom to fix this. This router should be powerful enough to handle most speeds without acceleration though.

Hi,

Is not in the port forwarding list. That's the problem. With AC66U and AC68U it appears in the port forward list.
The port forward & UPnP are working, but not 100% on the AC87U. I have other programs that use UPnP and it appears in the port forward list on my AC87U, but not with XBOX :)

Did you try to disable NAT acceleration anyway?

Also, post your system log. There might be something in it reported by miniUPnPd.

ahhaa, NAT acceleration was the problem. Disable it and rebooted the router and then fire up my XBOX and no warning on the network test option in the XBOX and now I see the port in the port forwarding list. hmm
So the NAT acceleration is buggy on the AC87U. Maybe report this to ASUS.

Thanks for your help :)

Same on XBOX One.
  1. Disabled UPnP in router
  2. Power cycled modem
  3. Power cycled router
  4. Enable UPnP on router
  5. Power cycled the XBOX One.

end result Open Nat with UPnP enabled.

There should be a general advice to turn off the NAT acceleration at current revision?

Only for ARM based routers it seems. On MIPS routers, port forwarding works fine with NAT acceleration.

If I recall correctly, port forwarding works by letting traffic on the forwarded port bypass the CTF module and use normal iptables for that port only. It seems this is not working in the current version on ARM models.

On my AC87U with latest merlinwrt release port forwaring is just working fine with NAT acceleration enabled. Can't be a general problem then.

Then it might be an issue with UPnP only.

It's a Xbox issue I believe.

I don't have any issues with my Xbox consoles. They both run fine with UPnP and NAT acceleration enabled. This is on a AC66U though. The issue might be limited to UPnP only.

As I wrote on my first post. I don't have this problem with my AC66U or AC68U. Only with AC87U :(
