XP reads from my NAS around 300mbps, but vista caps at 100mbps?

Everything is Gigabit - NICs, switches, etc. Tried multiple cables and switching stuff around.

The Vista system will write faster, but the writes are ALL OVER the place. IE 70mbps-350mbps sporadically going up and down and all around, WEEE... and that's on just one file of 1.5gb.

Doing the same thing on XP, I get a constant write speed around 300mbps+

And on XP, I get about the same 300mbps read speed. However, Vista SP1 read speed likes to chill out just below the 100mbps cap. And yes, everything is linked and reported as 1gbps.

What gives?

What OS is on the server?

Have you gotten a chance to test with Iperf yet? This program tests the maximum TCP/IP throughput between two computers.

When you are doing these tests is there any other network traffic?
