New Around Here
Hi all,

I had this problem happen quite a few times so far. My XT8 pair is connected via wired backhaul.

The ethernet connector on the node end is loose (broken clip) and pulls itself out from time to time. I know, easy fix, but its a 50ft run to the upper floor and i'm lazy and dont feel like messing with the connector either..

In any case, if i am to reboot the node everything is fine, it connects back up every single time. If i am to power cycle it, half the time it comes back up and the other half it doesnt. However, the moment the wired backhaul cable is pulled out, it permanently loses connection until i hard reset.

Is that normal? Rebooting both the node and the master doesnt help and neither does removing the node manually, i get a fast blinking blue light every single time and although it shows as connected in the GUI, nothing connects to it!

I'm running 42095 (which has been solid, and i mean rock solid, unlike anything else i've tried), but very tempted to try the Merlin release.

Anyone got any ideas? thanks in advance!!

It often takes time for a node to reconnect to the router - unless the LED is white, something is wrong

If the distant node has a white LED but does not work properly in the mesh network after power cycle - try this
  • unplug the node,
  • take it near the router
  • power it up,
  • add it again to the mesh system via the GUI (wireless - not cabled)
  • check whether you can connect devices to it
If it works, it will then work again via wired connection when placed back -
BUT you still have to walk and climb 15meters twice

IN ANY CASE
a) update to 3.0.0.4.386_46061 firmware released Jan 14 2022 (newer beta is also available as well as merlin GNUTON https://gnuton.github.io/asuswrt-merlin.ng)
b) use keystone jacks on the ends of 50ft (15m) installation cable and good patch cables, not broken RJ connectors on the long wire
