    WiFi speed test confusion

Many thanks for this - appreciated. So, from this, there is no definitive way to check the WiFi speed I am getting on my mobile phone at home? Also, do I install iperf as a server on my PC and then check on my mobile?

    WiFi speed test confusion

I have Netgear 3 node Orbi connected directly to ONT at 500 / 70 package. I get almost full 500 / 70 speeds on Ethernet connection to my PC. However, testing with Ookla, my Pixel 6 (WiFi 6E compatible) gives me 160 / 70 on my ISP site as well as some other sites Ookla chooses automatically. If...

Puzzled by loss of WiFi speed

I am on 5Ghz band. As you can see I am hitting 450+ on some test sites.

Puzzled by loss of WiFi speed

How bizarre!! I am using Speed test by Ookla. I was trying out various Test servers in Ookla. Tried a few times with Giganet Portsmouth (who I am with) and I get 160/70. However, Swish, idnet, 4 different Vodaphone servers and Trooli. ALL gave me speed in region of 450+ / 70. These servers were...

Puzzled by loss of WiFi speed

Apologies for not making this clearer. I have 3 routers - NOT used at the same time and so not connected to each other. I tried all three, one at a time connecting to the ONT, and am getting slow WiFi speeds on all of them.

Puzzled by loss of WiFi speed

Thank you. I do understand WiFi. I asked because I misunderstood your response. BTW my mail router is a Netgear Orbi Mesh - so, I do not necessarily need to replace the 86U which is working fine.

Puzzled by loss of WiFi speed

I have a RT-AC86U router. I am using a FTTP 500 / 70 service. This gives me full speeds over Ethernet connection. However, over WiFi, it only gives 160 / 70 connection (tried on Samsung phone, Pixel 6, iPad and Apple 12 phone as well). I have tried ISP router (Technicolor), Netgear RBR353 Orbi...

    IP addresses on ISP router

Thanks. In orger for me to access the bridged router, what IP address will the bridged isp router have?

    IP addresses on ISP router

Soon to change my ISP to one who provides a router. Only reason to use this is the VoIP phone facility on it. I can put that router in Bridge mode (what I prefer) so I can use my Mesh router system. New ISP router has 192.168.1.1 setup. If I use the Bridge mode, will this change? I want my...

    FTTP ONT location

Thanks Colin. Will run along the internal Garage wall, through a internal wall (duct already there) and into the study. Not near power cables.

    FTTP ONT location

Are you allowed to provide any names here please?

    FTTP ONT location

Thanks. Any easy way to ensure it up to spec?

    FTTP ONT location

Planning to have FTTP installed for the first time. I was thinking of having the ONT located in the Garage where there are enough power points. Can I then run an Ethernet connection about 10 metres away to my study where the Router will be located?

    Router recognition over Wi-Fi

Apologies about framing my point above. I am, may be, over complexing things!

    Router recognition over Wi-Fi

Thanks. I am assuming that my existing router range of 192.168.1.1 will change if the new isp router uses 192.168.1.1 range. If that happens, I guess I will have to clear the 3 fixed device ip addresses on my router first and re-fix them again after the changes.

    Router recognition over Wi-Fi

A newbie question - When a device, say an iPad, connects to the Wi-Fi Router to obtain an ip address, does it recognise the Router SSID or the Router's ip address? The reason I am asking this is because if I were to change the Router ip address from 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254 to...
