Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

Upgraded today to 24.03. Pretty uneventful. Interface seems a bit snappier though and i also have the impression that the HAproxy pass-through is a bit faster. Had a small issue with accessing my cloud-server but it seems an entry i had to change with a previous upgrade needed to go back to the...

Does it make sense to change my modem?

Good question. The double NAT has been bothering me for quite some time now. And not that i need it right now, it also makes IPv6 setup pretty complicated.

Does it make sense to change my modem?

The thing is, my ISP doesn't allow you to buy your own, otherwise i would have done that a long time ago already With regards to bandwidth, the whole idea is to not saturate it. With the whole family streaming all the time, i don't think 1Gbps is luxury anymore these days.

Does it make sense to change my modem?

I do run a Nextcloud instance with its own FQDN with certs and a proxy.

Does it make sense to change my modem?

I do have an X550-T2 in my pfSense box so the port is there.

Does it make sense to change my modem?

My modem is ISP provided and can be changed on request. For now, it is a DOCSYS3.0 HGW with built-in router and wifi. This means my pfSense router is connected to one of the 4 LAN ports of the HGW and the WAN IP on pfSense is a LAN IP from the HGW which means in essence double NAT. The HGW wifi...

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

I haven't made the upgrade yet. Waiting for a suitable slot at home.

Aruba vs Cisco vs TP Link Omada vs Unifi Access Points

I am all for Cisco. I am running an SG350 with 4 WAP571 AP's and once configured, it just runs and you kind of forget they are there. If i am to upgrade, it will definitely be Cisco again.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

Curious to see if i will be forced to move to CE or can just upgrade my plus-version.

EdgeRouter Lite - i need help, or another router recommendation

I would actually recommend to have the ER doing the DHCP and firewall together. I actually did that through the wizard when you do an initial setup. Sorry i don't know the specifics anymore as this was 5 years ago and i have moved on in the mean time. Initially to Mikrotik as i found the ERL-3...

Solved router connected to ISP router

I have been running my own router including a server with external access behind the ISP's router for many years now. I configured the ISP routers LAN IP to my routers WAN as DMZ, switched all ISP router wifi, firewall and filter functionality off and for the rest opened up ports 80 and 443 on...

Typical home NAS setup for family pictures/videos

Yeah. Thanks but no thanks. Call me old fashioned but i want a local copy of my critical data so i have full access at any time even if the internet is down. A backup in the cloud on the other hand is a good thing.

Typical home NAS setup for family pictures/videos

Honestly, i think that is rubbish. I have been running refurbished enterprise 2Tb SAS drives for years now. I bought a lot of 16 in total and over all those years, i have had one that failed gradually over all these years. If i can recall correctly i paid 15 USD a piece. Running TrueNAS with...

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

I just figured out that my Xeon E3-1220v2 doesn't support HT so i don't have to bother about that one.

    Truenas or Unraid

Because TrueNAS whilst being free is so much better as a NAS and runs on either FreeBSD (Core) or Linux (Scale) which are both rock solid and are much more reliable than Windows and also uses ZFS as a file system with better error handling and correction features than most other file systems.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

What made you look at that? I am pretty sure HT is also turned on but i never bothered looking into the effects of it, if any. I have an Intel X550-T2 in my pfSense box. That works perfectly fine.

    Seeking advice on RAID setup

We can whine about Synology or Qnap being better solutions but that is not going to provide an answer to the OP's question. I used to have Netgear ReadyNAS gear in the past and honestly, it was perfectly fine for storage purposes and even for running Plex. Understanding that the hardware is...

    Truenas or Unraid

I vote TrueNAS. I have TN Core up and running for years now and very happy with it. Two 256GB SSD's as mirrored boot pool with 4 2Tb SAS HDD's in zraid1. It is FreeBSD (not that big a jump from Linux) and ZFS. I run Plex and Nextcloud in a jail and it is rock solid. In the world of ZFS, spinning...

Cisco WAP571 all choose the same channels

I have 4 WAP571 in a single point setup cluster and indeed, they have all assigned the same channels (also 6 and 36) but i can't say i am suffering from interference. Everything is working really well. From your post, it is not clear to me if you have an actual issue or your are merely concerned...
