New Around Here
Hi Forum,

I've had some trouble getting my Lacie to talk to my computer, so now I've removed the Western Digital drive from the Lacie box and am trying to access it from my laptop using a USB/IDE enclosure that I got.

When I try to access the drive it would seem like I can use it - however, Windows Vista wants me to format the disk before being able to use it. Any idea of a way to get around this?

Thanks,
Jakob

I believe that the drive is formatted in XFS. I don't know of any solutions for mounting an XFS drive from Vista or XP.

You would be better off using an Ubuntu (or other Linux distro) live CD to get what you need off the drive.

...and then??

Thanks for the tip. Always eager to try out new stuff and so, I\m now online using my first ever Linux distribution...

WHen I plug in the drive from the Lacie box the following happens:
- two file browsers open automatically:
--- disk - File Browser which points to 106.9 MB media.
--- disk-1 File Browser which points to 8.2 MB Media

Not much for a 250GB disk...

I can view folders such as:
/media/disk/mnt/lacie
/media/disk/bin

On disk-1 I get similar folders (but not the same).

What should I be looking for from here?
What should I do?

Thanks!!
