Known issue: RT-AC68U needs to be reset to default to resolve the login problem after upgrading to this beta version.
If you want to downgrade to the previous version, you need to do it with rescue mode.
We are looking for a solution to this problem if you worry about this known issue, please wait for a further version and not update to this version.

May gracefully wait this one out a bit longer then, not sure I need that headache just now across my 4 X RT-AC68U units ... RC9 is being very stable for me :)

But thank you @ASUSWRT_2020 for this beta program (and the continued support of what is pretty old hardware now), all the best to you and your colleagues for 2021!

It might be an unpopular opinion but time has come for Asus to drop support for all non-AX models (Except RT-AC86U and GT-AC11000)

I don't know why. If I'm setup AX86U as main router (official/merlin firmware) and 2 zenwifi XT8, only official latest firmware 25790 only will give 5Ghz both connected. If using any RC firmware to both zenwifi. only one of them will be 5Ghz. The other one only stuck at 2.4Ghz.

AX86U as main router (official/merlin firmware/RC Beta)
Zenwifi as node (RC any firmware inluding latest 41535 )

AX86U as main router (official/merlin firmware/RC Beta)
Zenwifi as node (Official 386.25790)

so for now, I just use official 25790 for XT8 and can't use bind features.

@sanke1

I won't think any less of them when they do, constantly surprised (but pleased) they are still supporting and giving new features to the RT-AC68U 7 years or so after its initial release ...

Not everyone wants to spend $200 for a home router. The RT-AC66U_B1 is a great sub-$100 device, and will meet the needs of the majority of people. It's actually the model I use for the majority of my own customers. And statistics also show that this is currently their most popular model.

9.0.0.4.386.41535 is running fine on RT-AC5300 and RT-68U (node).

@ASUSWRT_2020
RT-AC5300 with 9.0.0.4.386.41535 has the same issue I reported previously. Recap: when a device is successfully connected to the guest network 1 (2.4GHz), it disconnects internet for both guest and internet network. Creating a guest network 1 without active connection does not trigger this issue. Also, I can still ping the internet from the router (ssh). Guest network 2 has no such issue. So, the issue is related to br1 for 192.168.101.0/24.

Do you need any information / logs from me?

Cheers and Happy New Year!

This version includes
ZenWiFi XT8, XD4, CT8
GT series: GT-AX11000, GT-AC5300, GT-AC2900
RT series: RT-AX88U, RT-AX92U, RT-AX86U, RT-AX82U, RT-AX58U, TUF-AX3000, RT-AX56U, RT-AX55
RT series: RT-AC5300, RT-AC88U, RT-AC3100, RT-AC86U, RT-AC68U

Due to compile problem, not in this version
ZenWiFi CD6, Lyra, Lyra mini, Lyra trio

Did everyone miss the bit about the ZenWifi and Lyra models? Looks like it is being worked on! WHOOO!

@ASUSWRT_2020 is this a confirmation that Lyra will be updated to the .386.x branch at some time in the future?

Folks on the Merlin variant of this release running on the RT-AC86U are reporting high temperatures.

It is happening (partially or fully) due to the CPU wait state being disabled by default.
My own unit was running up to 100 degrees and thermally throttling until I re-enabled the wait state setting manually.

Reaching out to any ac86u users here to test and report on the official firmware as-per Merlin's suggestion

I figure it would be easier for someone already on this stock beta to test/check rather than fussing with my own unit on Merlin.

Is there any reason to upgrade the XT8 from beta 9 to 10 if the (short) changelog doesn't include any changes/fixes for this model?

how i can check cpu tem and wifi interface under Asus stock fw ?

cat /proc/dmu/temperature not work

I think if you use DDNS and want Let's Encrypt be working, you may upgrade it.

This gives processor temp in millidegrees C

cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone*/temp

My AC86U on 386-40451 reports 68458 or 68.458 C in a 20.5 C room

Edit: Have not figured out how to get radio temps. The overheating issue with the AC86U only seems to be with the main CPU so radio temps are not necessary at this point.

Is fullcone nat part of this beta? Because im hesitating whether to test it or not?

RC2-10 has destroyed my throughput on my AX11000, both wired and wireless. I have 300mb g.fast and at the moment I am only getting around 30mb. I seems I cannot now downgrade to beta RC2-9 which worked fine.
Please can anyone tell me how I can revert to the previous beta, are there any instructions anywhere online?
Thanks

ASUSWRT_2020,

Took me a night to discovered that with AiProtection ON for my RT-AX88U (RC2-10 9.0.0.4_386_41535-g1caa24a), my Internet Speed goes down from 1 Gbps to about 30 Mbps :( with AiProtection OFF I get back to 930 Mbps:)

Edit: Specifically if any of these is ON
  • Malicious Sites Blocking
  • Vulnerability Protection
  • Infected Device Prevention and Blocking

Hmm, has slightly increased my throughput if I turn these off, now at around 70-80mb but still way slower than normal. I have checked with my ISP and it's definitely nothing at their end.
Wireless speeds actually seem quite a bit better than wired.

Hi All,

For my case I find that after upgrading to RC2-10 from Merlin 386.1 Beta3, I am unable to
  • Downgrade back to Merlin 386.1 Beta 3,
  • actually, I cannot even reload the same version of RC2-10.
This is the warning pop up I get:

PS: If there is any comfort, the FW actually works, Let's Encrypt is working ... just cannot load new firmware. BE CAREFUL ... I hope it is only me :( Happy New Year:)

The change log is likely not all inclusive. The main reason is to contribute to this beta test. If you are not in it for that, you should probably wait for the early adopters to run interference for you. You can still contribute later at less risk.

Darren,
For me, I alway like to reboot everything, my Fibre ONT box (from ISP), my Router ...
I plug my MacBookPro directly to the ONT box (from ISP) by passing my Router, where I get my close to 1gbps, to ensure that it is not ISP problem. Hope you get your speed issue resolved for the New Year :)
