New Around Here
Brand spanking new AC5300 - just updated to Merlin build hoping it would fix this issue, but alas.

Problem: Network map doesn't work properly anymore - it only shows the handful of static mapped devices that I have, but none of the DHCP clients.

What I've done different is double the IP range (255.255.254.0) and put DHCP on the extended subnet. My understanding on networking is fairly basic, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Default gateway/network is 10.25.3.1, mask is 255.255.254.0. This creates a subnet 10.25.2.0/23 (apparently :)). I've put DHCP server with IP pool from 10.25.2.2 - 10.25.2.253, and my static mapped devices (servers, NAS, printers, etc) on 10.25.3.*.

Since I've done this, network map contains only the 6 static IPed devices (on 10.25.3.* range), and none of the 50 or so DHCP devices reflect, and hence also don't show up in the Adaptive QoS panel. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the guidance, although I don't think this is related to the issue I'm having. I'm not sure, but suspect this might be related to Class A network greater than /24. While I do have extenders in my network, 90% of the DHCP devices are connecting directly to my main router AC5300 (previously AC68). I suppose I can test this by switching back to /24 on the class A, and see if it all starts working again - but I think there is something wrong with how the router deals with extended networks - beyond the regular home user. I run a couple of higher end devices including Dell PowerConnect switches for my hardwired devices, because I have servers that support large numbers of virtual machines for testing. Currently I sandbox them with a gateway, but ideally I want to have them on the same physical network, hence splitting out home and "other" ip ranges.

Maybe the extenders (one hardwired Netgear and a repeater for the last stage), are causing issues. But this works if I keep it simple. And surely the AC5300 can handle it?

Ok, I've verified that going back to /24 (255.255.255.0) fixes the issue. Does this mean extended subnets aren't supported? I mean what do you do if you have more than 254 devices? (it's not a stretch, I have a bunch of devices - and need an extended IP range to support virtual machines, etc) - at the moment, I do this through a seperate gateway, but ideally, I'd like to support larger IP ranges...

networkmap is hardcoded to a /24.

Is this by design, or something that can be "improved"? :D

It's the way it was designed. Changing this would require major changes to its implementation.

Any chance we might see this happen in the near (or not so near) future? I have a network with a similar configuration. My netmask is 255.255.240.0. I use a larger subnet so I can isolate certain devices on my network. It also allows me to isolate my guest WiFi network from critical systems through firewall rules.

Though the issue of all my clients not showing up in the network client list is annoying, the real issue I have noticed is that clients outside the router's own /24 do not show up for things like routing rules, port forwarding, etc... Anywhere the router config software presents a list of hosts in a pull down.

I'd love to see this get fixed.

Thanks for all the work you have done!

Not from me. It will have to be done by Asus.
