do You reflash router after disconnect usb device ? Asus write about this in some readme files

No because I believe then the change Merlin wanted me to test wouldn't be active anymore. The only reason the device is connected is to test what Merlin requested.

Asus' instructions probably had to do with the fact that flashing can sometimes fail due to being too low on available RAM. Booting with no plugged USB disk first prevents that. This is for a different issue.

I was able to track down the crashing issue by working remotely with someone with the issue. I sent the fix to Asus, hopefully it covers all the potential cases related to that problem.

Asus should really just offer you a position in their firmware department. Quality Control, Bug Fixer, whatever, you deserve it.

Ain't over yet, there at least one more buffer overrun issue in networkmap, still causing httpd to crash as it tries to deal with a device name longer than 15 chars.

Networkmap is in need of a complete rewrite, quite frankly. It's old code, and there's been many buffer overrun issues in it over the years.

You had mentioned the httpd crash being a show stopper for your next release. Does this mean you are comfortable releasing 378.56 now before Asus get around to fixing this?

Will depend on how further testing will go. I couldn't track down one last scenario that can lead to a crash, so I had to content myself with mitigating the problem.

Dear all,

I write to Polish Support ASUS and he dont see problem. Enginer write me that he use 5GHz with Samsung Note 4 and he dont see problem :/

it's standard admin reply..."It works for me", but you are not interested , that his router work properly, only that your one not.

Now write me that he create TICKET to central ASUS to verification.

Off-topic posts have been moved to their own thread.

Please keep this thread on the topic of the 9177 firmware release.

Merlin do you have a layman explanation of what is going on with this firmware regarding the httpd crash. Should people of this problem wait for a fix before trying again?

Merlin has fixed it in the latest .56 beta. If the name is too long it now gets truncated I believe.
