Diversion Diversion 5.4.4 - the Router Ad-Blocker, April 12, 2025

Diversion requires Entware. Eject the disc while Diversion is running WILL cause problems. Disabling Diversion doesn't help, things will still crash.
Removed Diversion and after a slight delay the drive unmounts cleanly.
Smoking gun anyone?
you can keep diversion, just disable logging and usb unmounts fine also

Well noted. Not going to install Diversion again to test, but I'm sure you have ;)

Anyone else having problems updating oisd's large list. I'm getting
Code:
 Error: https://big.oisd.nl/dnsmasq2
 appears not to be a valid compatible file format, skipping

I haven't tried the small list or any other lists from that source.

Looks like the website is non-responsive / slow loading at the moment.

Thanks for confirming, it's been happening since Monday.

It's been down since Sunday apparently...

Anyone know if they have a mirror?

Update: I changed the --connect-timeout in diversion script from 10 to 20 and I was able to connect to the main OISD site and download the blocking list file without issues

Diversion 5.4.4 is now available
  • Fixes incomplete display of Diversion WebUI page for latest firmware. Thanks to @Martinski for the changes.

Diversion on New York Times website (nytimes.com) is only blocking ~10% of the ads. Used to be 100% of ads through 2022-2024. I can't see anything obviously wrong in my setup and tried a remove/install. Updated to 5.4.4 this morning and thought to mention.

FIXED:
* my Diversion setup uses the "Exclude devices from ad-blocking" feature in conjunction with Asus DNS Director and a few device MAC addresses. Only these few devices on the network have ad-blocking - whereas default/most devices do not have ad-blocking (so sites that detect ad-blocking continue to work normally).
* The few devices for ad-blocking are Apple devices. The Apple feature "Private Wi-Fi address" with a "Fixed" spoof MAC address does not work in my set with Asus DNS Director MAC address redirection. Identifying the spoof fixed MAC addresses in the Asus DNS Director GUI did not help. Disabling Apple's Private Wi-Fi feature on the Apple devices fixes the above problem.

May I suggest an improvement/simplification of your terminology:

blocked = blocked by blockinglist
denylisted = blocked by denylist
allow-listed = allow-listed by allowlist

blocked = blocked by blockinglist
denied = denied by denylist
allowed = allowed by allowlist
