    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Ch.149 is available on my DD-WRT TL-WDR3600 AP. In the 2.4GHz advanced settings, the domain is set to United Kingdom. However, there is no domain setting for 5GHz on that firmware - maybe DD-WRT (a mid-2022 build) missed out that feature, or it is inherited from the 2.4Ghz domain setting. I see...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

RT-AC66U-B1 ordered (£40 used) for use as AP. Guest network question: To extend the guest wireless network(s) to the AP/node I guess I will need to enable AiMesh. With AiMesh, will I be able to manually control the wireless channel allocations for main router? I'd like to use the following...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Basement speedtest results from my 135/20Mbps WAN through RT-AC66U-B1 main router wireless on floor 1 measured in below ground basement (floor 0) though floor void containing fireproofing suspended by chickenwire between joists. AP2 setting: 2.4GHz 40Mhz bandwidth ch13 (lower) i.e. 9+13 Mixed...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

I mean floor 0 users to have no means of accessing the LAN that serves floors 1, 2 and 3.

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

No old coax here, but I like the idea. It made me think of how I could run some ethernet cable outside the building entering and exiting through wooden window frames. There is already a bundle of black telecom and ISP internet coax running across the stonework, so adding another cable to an AP...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Thanks. This recommendation may turn my head. I've thrown it into the mulling pot while doing some more testing. I moved the powerline ethernet to an outlet near the media system. The added length of copper ring main dropped the data rate from 55Mbps to 42Mbps, but the connection remains solid...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Largely attributable to my general ignorance and British Standard idiocy* - I wasn't sure if SSID duplication would cause issues. But partly so I could easily know which AP my devices are connected to, hence general ignorance was never propely dispelled. ... which suddenly makes proposed £470...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Thx. So, its looking like this, serving floors 0 to 3: RT-AX86 Pro - main router on floor 1 next to cable modem. Needs 2.4GHz to penetrate the ceiling fireproofing to the below-ground basement (floor 0). RT-AX86S - node on floor 3. Existing wired CAT6 backhaul to main router. Again, 5Ghz...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Thanks @glens. The 802.11g question is difficult to answer. I have switched off AP3 and made the 2.4GHz g connection to the main router to see if anyone notices any issues (other than the media player possibly dropping and reconnecting due to low signal). I vaguely remember something about...

Can anyone help with the AiMesh questions...?

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Thanks all, point(s) taken. The brick capacity will always be equal to or more than the maximum power consumption, including supplying USB power, running all cores at 100%, running all wireless transceivers at full data bandwidth and full power. Power in typical use will of course be lower than...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

The 5GHz seems to work well when client and AP are on the same floor, but the signal penetration between floors is bad. So four floors with two APs means 2.4GHz is needed. Plus the pesky media player that sounds so wonderful is 2.4GHz wireless g only, though that could be transformed by a media...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Thanks. I'm sure those have screamingly fast throughput and capability to effortlessly run AiMesh, VPNs, traffic montoring and many other bells and whistles thanks to the 2GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM, and 4x4 wireless. But they also consume 45W and are expensive to buy in the UK (£237). Is...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Objectives: to retire / replace Wi-Fi 4 APs and replace main router with AX (Wi-Fi 6) device that can run Asuswrt-Merlin, without significantly increasing power consumption. I'm aware that Wi-Fi 7 is coming, but remaining one step behind is okay by me at the moment. Stability, security, support...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

I'm curious to know if anything is written to flash when the router reboots. Repeatedly writing to flash memory does wear it out eventually. But just reading from flash does not significantly impact MTBF as far as I know. Rebooting will surely place very little stress on the other components...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

Two minutes does seem a bit hasty, but this raises the question: how long does it have to be working without issue before "seems to work fine" becomes worth reporting? Does the forum only want to hear about when there are issues, with no reports of "everything seems to work fine"? Personally...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

Dirty update via web UI from 386.11 to 386.12 on RT-AC66U B1 two weeks ago. Last clean install was 386.9. Running in router mode without any observed issues. I wish my ISP was as reliable. Thank you @RMerlin

    RT-AC66U B1 - fixable or not?

Thermal pads of various sizes, thickness, and thermal conductivities can be found on eBay. I've never taken my RT-AC66U B1 apart so I can't advise what size and thickness is needed. If you look at the temperature graph in the administration tab, does the CPU temperature go very high very...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 beta is now available

That sounds REALLY useful. I must have missed that feature. How would I back up the devces (DHCP allocations?) and icons?
