    As stated, no connection could be established with encryption turned off. Yes, I should have done that. Not sure why using NETGEAR is an issue, especially with no neighbors.

    Correct. Yes. I did have to manually enter the Key on both PC to get them to work. I'm not going to get into a p!ssing contest about what encryption is better. The router is literally located in "the back woods" so someone breaking in is highly unlikely (closest neighbor is 1,500' away)...

    I concur. I would also like to know how recovery/rebuild went ! Even though Synology yells at you that RAID is not backup (30+ years in the business ... I know this !), they don't tell you how easy it is to use tar to back up your RAID set(s) to a JBOD (cheaper), the same NAS ! Some day...

    I have to agree ! Synology boxes are not cheap. What you are paying for is the software. There is probably less than $300 worth of parts there. I installed one for a friend who is running a small photography business. He wanted a "commercial" solution (I would have rolled my own)...
