"Best" new router that supports Merlin?

I have found through the years that quality hardware does make a difference. I have CL dsl and found that their modems/routers really are run of the mill quality. When I switched to Draytek, these products not only performed reliably but I also obtained higher download and upload speeds. When...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I am using the same firmware on both routers and have a hardwired backhaul connection. Not seeing the disconnect issue. Granted my node router is not my master and I do not use the RT-AX86u in my setup. If I select the "network" tab on the page, I still do not show connection issues message.

    AC86U router temperature

Thats a sign your router is running too hot. They lose performance and you can start having connection issues. CPU`s do not like running hot and neither do radio chips. Thats why you see cooling fan kits for this style router out on the net and they work. Try a fan kit and then the latest...

    AC86U router temperature

I have used some sort of fan cooling on this ASUS router style of package for years. Many say you don`t need them, but cooling makes the router last longer and run a lot more stable. I have used this style for years with my now retired rt-ac68u and that router never had one hiccup since...

"Best" new router that supports Merlin?

So, I got a GT-AX6000 on sale at Amazon and got it up and running in a short time. Updated to the Merlin non ROG firmware 388.1 and then verified that all my setting were the same as my RT-AX6000. Since the RT-AX6000 was now going to be the node, I reset to factory default and went in and...

"Best" new router that supports Merlin?

To get back on track here, I have been looking at the Gt-AX6000 and the RT-AX88u. How are the GT-AX6000 and RT-AX88u behaving when setup using AiMesh and Merlin`s 388 firmware. That would be the combination I would use. I also might just go ahead and get another RT-AX88u and use 2 of those in a...

"Best" new router that supports Merlin?

So, since I am in the process of looking to update my RT-AC68u, I found this discussion and have a few questions for users who have purchased the GT-AX6000 and from users of the RT-AX88u, which I use as my master, with my mesh setup. I see that major differences between the ax6000 and the ax88u...

Run Merlin or Factory on AiMesh nodes?

I have been running this way since I switched to Merlin firmware. My master and node always run Merlin with no issues. Up to this last weekend, my mesh system was wirelessly connected and performed without any issues for at least 2 years. Now I changed to the wired backhaul connection and still...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

just did a dirty update to the 388.1 Absolutely zero issues and all functions from what I have tested work correctly. I have a RT-AC68U, original release, in mesh mode as a node and it continued to work perfectly with a wireless connection. The node is running 386.7_2 firmware. Had time today so...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.8 is now available for specific models

As for the AiMesh using the AX88u with the 386.8 and my AC68U running Merlin's latest is not an issue for me. Both my routers are of the 1st generation hardware and the mesh network is performing well. For me the only issue is the temp graph mapping on the AX88U. I suspect that will be fixed...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.8 is now available for specific models

Dirty update went well. No issues with mesh system so all is well. My only issue is with the temp graph. Scaling and the temp plot lines are not correct. I like other have seen the same thing. My temps that are shown outside the graph are correct. The graph part is not.

    Solved AC68U antenna question

They work perfect. I bought some antennas for the RT-AC88u, I believe the same router, and I actually got better radio range and performance with that upgrade. Nothing to watch out for from my end.

    Router temperatures

All electronics can have heat issues. If you remove covers on ASUS routers you will see that the heatsink could be larger, but the cases air vents and position of the heatsink does not help remove heat. Short story is the natural chimney convection that is needed to remove heat just does not...

Upgraded to 386.1_0 from 384.19 & there seems to be a phantom device

I ran into the same issue when I updated from 384.19 to the 386_1.2. When a device drops its connection, it is still show in the list of connected devices. This is both for the router when your connected and with the app on your phone. When refreshing the phone app, nothing happens unless you...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 is now available

So here is my feedback, 2 routers setup in mesh mode. Using wireless for node connection not wired backhaul mode. Master is a RT-AX88U and node is an V1 RT-AC68U router. Both were running the 384.19 merlin firmware prior to update. No issues other than ASUS not passing live device access time...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

To answer Smokeboxes question, Prior to adding my OOMA box to my ac68u, my router performed well. Never had slowdowns or connection interruptions. After I installed OOMA box between router and modem, I started to see slowdowns, mainly on my wifi 2.4ghz band since that was what my wife`s laptop...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

Just an observation. I have not upgraded to B5 yet, but I notice that there are lots of strange issues that might be contributed to users that use VOIP boxes. For example, OOMA wants you to connect in series with router ,IF, you cannot connect to separate lan port on your providers box. So here...

    Merlin 386.1 Beta 4 - AiMesh 2x AX86U, Node constantly disconnecting clients

Andrew, I see your using the 4 beta. Have you updated to the 4b beta yet. Go to this link to download. Test builds - OneDrive (live.com) My suspicions is ASUS might have an issue connecting a node to the master using the 2.5gb port. I am thinking that they added this port only for users that...

Frontier claims their router is better than most (Including my AX88U)

Go into router and make sure the MTU value is set. Some ISP require 1492 and some 1500. I would enter 1500 for and then test.

Frontier claims their router is better than most (Including my AX88U)

The ONT is an optical/modem. If you go into your RT-AX88u and see in the setup what the IP is from Frontier, you should be able to disconnect router and connect using that IP with your laptop through hardwire. If your speed is what it is advertised from Frontier, then do a full factory reset and...
