If you need more dB's, look here. I use them and am very happy about the performance.

ASUS RT-N66U Extremely slow wireless speed on 2.4Ghz

Wouter, realize that this issue is a replacement of a D-Link router for an Asus. If you keep the router in the same position and use the same channel there is no reason to believe that the cause is with your site: it is the router! With the new Broadcom firmware the RT-N66U has been degraded...

N66U - Wifi Range issues back again.

No, not when you want a safe environment. The router is a very interesting device for hackers and sometimes the used software shows leaks. Therefor the router's firmware need updates. You can do the same as I do: - use a router from your ISP and have it run without wireless on - attach the Asus...

    Wireless Range and Firmware Versions

And, how does this version works for you ? Besides this firmware version I also installed 12 dBi antennas (http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showpost.php?p=138632&postcount=10) These antennas gives me some more coverage.

    Wireless Range and Firmware Versions

270.26b is the best firmware for me. It gives me coverage through the whole garden. None of the later versions did that. With the change of "something" the perfect RT-N66U changed into a "13 into a dozen" wireless router, not worth buying.

    Access Point issues

Did you connect the network cable to a LAN port of the AP (TP-Link)? Connecting to the WAN port will give issues in your set-up.

Help with 9dbi antennas for RT-N66R

Well, I have positive experience with the 12 dBi antennes. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KQ0EN2A/?tag=snbforums-20 I mounted these on my RT-N66R and the result is that I can use my wifi network far away in my garden without dropping the connection. With the stock antenna the connection dropped...

    Dangerous to rise TX power?

You can better mount better antennas. Only increasing the power at one location (only the router, not the laptop/smartphone/tablet) is not a good solution. By mounting antennas with higher gain you will extend the distance. But keep in mind that you pay off in less coverage above (and...

    ASUS RT-AC87U / R Price and Availability

The Netherlands: The price ex-VAT is 247 euro. When comparing to US$ you should compare ex-VAT prices as list prices in the US are always ex-VAT. 247 euro makes about 353 US$ / CAN$ We need more competition in The Netherlands, otherwise they rip you off here.

    Old Firmware RT-N66u 3.0.0.4.260

If the coverage of this device wasn't affected by the updates I should have used the latest. But "progress" isn't always better for that  I use my RT as AP. Do I run the same risks as when using the RT as router/DNS server etc?

Firmware Suggestions for RT-N66U (Factory, new/old or RMerlin's)

I installed 3 x 12 dB antenna's (bought by Amazon) and my range has expanded a lot. With the RT-N66U, set as AP, placed in the middle of my living room (on top of a cabinet), I now have good coverage inside the house and my whole garden of 1000 m2 (max distance is 30 meters) !! Before I used...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 374.40 is out

I am on 26b and the coverage is wonderfull compared to all other builds I tried. Also not a single glitch in performance. Love it :) I'll wait for a build which has at least the same coverage as 26b as coverage is the most important feature for me of this AP.

RT-N66U seems to have lost its range

After installing this version, don't forget to do a factory reset. Regarding the settings, do not reload an old back-up but use manual installation.

RT-N66U seems to have lost its range

Set the RF power for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz to it's maximum value. For me this latest -em build is still not good enough, so I returned to Merlin's 26b build. As I use it as AP I don't worry for the security issues. My RT-N66U is now working as it was one year ago: very good coverage !
