    Migration from RT-N66U to AC-87U?

There's a script here https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Sort-DHCP-Reservations-by-IP which extracts only the reserved IP addresses, sorts them and reloads. This could be used to extract the IP addresses from your old router and reload them into the new one. John's NVRAM save/restore...

    Two ISPs in two rooms

My mother's overhead phone line was giving problems recently. BT said the cable was still the original from 50 years ago, and they offered to replace it. However, they also told her that due to Health and Safety Regulations, they are no longer allowed to climb up a ladder to attach the new...

SSID - Do you use separate for both 2.4 and 5.0?

At home, we have a router and 2 APs, all with 2.4 and 5Ghz radios. All 6 use the same SSID, but each uses a different channel. Walking around the house works seemlessly. Apparently, this is more a feature of the clients rather than of the router or APs, so maybe we are just lucky with the...

How to switch Asuscomm DDNS to a new router?

I searched quite thoroughly and didn't find much information, but apologise in advance if this has already been covered somewhere. I want to register my public IP address with a DDNS service. Since I have an Asus router, I have decided to use Asuscomm. Some have remarked that it is not very...

Should I get the AC68U or the AC87U for 10€ more?

Hi Nazgulled From reading a lot of threads on this forum, it would seem that people generally have a lot more problems with the RT-AC87U than with the RT-AC68U. Reading your post, I get the feeling that you would prefer to simply install your new router, then forget all about it. You don't...

    Access Points for Residential use

I have tried both approaches and came to the following conclusion: 1 - When using the same SSID, there is a good chance that client devices will roam seemlessly when moving about the house. (Exact performance depends on the client.) 2 - When using different SSIDs, it is very likely that the...

    Ethernet in Bathroom ?

This is rather off the wall and I apologise in advance . . . . My wife is currently remodelling our bathroom (I mean the room with bath, shower etc.) Right now, the walls are stripped back to the plaster before being tiled. It would be an ideal time to add an Ethernet socket. (In fact, it's...

Append date/time to all article preview thumbnails on homepage & other search/index pages?

I used to work with colleagues from all over the world, and found that a date such as 6/7/2015 was very easily misunderstood - does it mean 6 July or 7 June ? And of course, users on one side of the Altlanic prefer MM/DD/YYYY and on the other side DD/MM/YYYY because that's what they're used to...

I am seeing Lag for all the Ads to Finish

I would cheerfully buy from Amazon through this site, but as I'm not in the US I would have to pay transport and import duties. If there was a way of ordering from the local Amazon in my country, it would work much better for me.

    Wireless Printer Problems

It looks like there may be more than one problem. Concerning the lack of a ping response: It's very desireable that the printer always gets the same IP address. There are 2 ways of making sure that this happens: The first way is to define a fixed ID in the printer itself. The IP address...

    Asus RT-AC66 Alternatives

From my perspective, 2 years is time enough for most bugs to be fixed, especially when running Merlin instead of stock formaware. For me stability is much more important than all the latest features, or raw speed. So I chose an AC-RT66U for exactly these reasons. It's running Merlin 378.50...

Is Airprint compatible with RT-AC68U through USB?

Spent hours trying to get an AirPrinter to work earlier this year. From what I can gather, printer discovery from the iDevice uses the Bonjour protocol, which requires that multicasting be enabled on the router. Some routers do not seem to handle this well, and after a few hours the printer...

ASUS RT-N66 web interface is broken: no images loaded

I had the same problem when I bought a RT-AC66U a few months ago. The problem diappeared when I entered the router's IP address in a white list in ESET NOD32, and also in a white list for Java script (accessed through Windows Control panel). I'm not sure if white listing in Java will help you...

    RT-AC68U ... Need some help!

If the ISP says this is happening because of problems they are having, this is most likely to be correct. The entries in the log file seem to support this. I think it is very unlikely that the ISP would tell you that it's their fault, if this were not the case.

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

I have tried both discrete SSIDs and using the same SSID thoughout the house. (3 APs, all with 2.4 and 5GHz radios). Finally I settled for using the same SSID throughout, since then our devices have a chance to switch over seemlessly as we walk about. (Most are well behaved and do this.)...

Does traffic take a short cut through the switch ?

Hello, a simple question from a networking newbee. I have lurked on this forum for several months and have read widely about networking in general, but can't find the answer to the following question. I would like to back up one NAS to another - both will be connected through a switch to a...

RT-AC66U limits wired speed to 55mbps down despite cable upgrade to 100mbps down...

I think this is unlikely to be a generalised problem. I am also using an RT-AC66U and to a wired PC I'm getting 75Mb/s down and 7Mb/s up, as advertised by the ISP. (Using Merlin 378.50, more or less default settings but with everything to do with IPv6 switched off, uptime 74 days.)
