What motion sensor are you using?

Our labrador (22kg - 48lbs) was able to set off the motion detector if we accidentally left it switched on. (I suppose it might not be the same for every detector so YMMV.)

    Ac86u most stable firmware

@Sohaib Sarwar If I understand correctly from your first post, you would prefer to use a very stable version. In this case, it would be better to avoid any alpha or beta versions, which are really test versions before the finished product is released. Better would be to load the "stable...

    Ac86u most stable firmware

-1- Merlin wrote elsewhere on the forum that he concentrates more on ironing out any problems in the stock software, rather than adding new features. So generally the Merlin build can be expected to be more stable than stock. As an example, I am running 384.6_alph2_g5b076fc87 on a RT-AC86U...

Recommended Method To Update Firmware On A New RT-AC86U Router?

When I first powered up my new RT-AC86U at the end of June, it immediately updated itself to the latest version of the stock Asus firmware. (As far as I can recall, I did not get a choice about this.) After the update had completed, I installed the latest Merlin, which at that time was...

    384.6 Advanced DHCP page bug?

Do you have any unusual characters in the client names ? If I remember correctly, the only characters allowed by the relevant technical standard are letters, numbers and the minus sign. Inverted commas (both single and double) are especially likely to cause problems.

Problems with ASUS RT86U - Running Merlin, configuring USB Drive.

What I found on my RT-AC66U was that it was not possible in Windows 7 to map a drive letter to the root of the USB stick. I am not sure why this, but it happened. Instead, I had to first put the USB stick in my PC and create a subdirectory on the stick. I called it "winmap", but the name does...

[Preview] Early Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 test builds are available

RT-AC86U with 384.6_alpha2-g5b076fc87, uptime nearly 5 days. After clicking round the GUI, after about the 20th click it froze trying to access the Dual WAN page*. Firefox message "performing a TLS handshake" and no further progress. SSH in with Putty, then service stop-httpd and service...

[Preview] Early Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 test builds are available

Yes, Guest 1 is enabled, with the MAC filter left as the default "Disable". The same SSID is used for both 2.4 and 5. For non-guest, I use a different SSID, but again the same SSID for both radios. I also have 2 APs connected to the main AC-RT86U with Ethernet cables. For non-guest, both...

[Preview] Early Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 test builds are available

UPnP settings left as the default. WhatsApp installed on iPhone clients. The youngsters sometimes use Spotify, but I think not at the time of these log entries. No Dropbox or Syncthing. There are no apparent performance problems and the log file entries do not worry me, I am just a bit...

No, neither. The setup is fairly vanilla, except OVPN server is running. I have 2 Apple Time Capsules connected by Ethernet, set up as APs. Not sure if that is relevant.

[Preview] Early Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 test builds are available

384.alpha2-g5b076fc on RT-AC86U - running for 4 days with no problems at all. Channels selected manually for both radios. A few unexplained log entries but apart from that, everything seems to be working fine. Jul 3 19:54:13 kernel: br0: received packet on eth5 with own address as source...

[Preview] Early Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 test builds are available

Same here with 384.alpha2-g5b076fc installed on RT-AC86U. Tried to define a non-standard port number in the GUI but this was written to the .opvn file as port 0. It seems however that the .opvn file can be edited manually to correct the port number, which is much faster than installing 384.5...

AC86U with 384.5 VPN log question

Thank you, that was most helpful. It turns out I was completely mistaken and have been using the standard port all along. That explains why OpenVPN saw the port knocking and logged it to the system log. Obviously, changing to a non-standard port would make things more difficult for someone...

AC86U with 384.5 VPN log question

I have almost identical entries in the system log, starting since April this year. By coincidence, I did an analysis this afternoon and found that 80% of log in attempts are coming from servers in the same range, 185.200.118.0/24. What puzzles me is that the log file entry is written by...

    Anyone try Alpha 384.6

This. I bought an RT-AC86U last week specifically because of the support provided by Merlin. When I have it set up and running satifactorily, I plan to buy another 2 or 3 RT-AC-86U for 2 different sites. If Merlin's support has to stop because Asus makes it awkward for him, I shall probably...

I had two ac88u's hacked recently with last 384.5 firmware

Exactly this. Started on 20 April 2018. About once or twice per day. Seems to be registered to no-mans-land dot m247 dot com. Quite a few references on the Internet to this domain in a similar context. Apr 20 23:44:42 openvpn[16132]: 185.200.118.57 TLS: Initial packet from...

How often should you power cycle?

Never unless required. Uptime last week was 210 days, before I had to reboot when a mis-configured access point caused a network storm. The Merlin build has been very stable for me. I am currently using RT-AC66U running Merlin 380.68_4, planning to update shortly.

Tutorial How to setup a VPN Server with Asus routers 380.68 updated 08.24

Hmmm, accessing your home network from the WAN side, while still at home. One way might be to access the Internet through your mobile phone (using 3G, *not* WiFi). Then create a hotspot on your phone, and then connect your laptop to the hotspot. Your laptop will then access the Internet...

    Wireless Security Cameras & RT-AC3100

If all 3 were working at one time but not now, something must have changed. If you can figure out what that may be, you would be half-way to finding the solution. Does everything function correctly if you temporarily connect the 3 cameras to the router using 3 Ethernet cables ? If yes, the...
