    Simple QoS advice needed please

Thanks for the advice but I need clearer instructions than that I am afraid. Adaptive QoS does not have any limits to define, it is Traditional QoS that has those settings. Adaptive QoS will keep iTunes and YouTube in the same priority category if I select "Streaming". If I leave Adaptive QoS...

    Simple QoS advice needed please

A quick update to this... I have watched the wireless traffic on the Traffic Monitor and the HomePod requests the next track in a single burst rather than in increments. Here is what I mean... Current download speed has risen to 9.0Mbps due to a reset last night which was unexpected but not...

    Simple QoS advice needed please

Hello folks - I would appreciate some advice on using QoS on my AC86U running Merlin 382.1_2. I have never had to use QoS before as I just left all my devices to get on with it as the router saw fit but I now need to prioritize one device over all others. The situation is that we have a...

    RT-AC87u firmware development

I too have an 87U but I find the ASUS router model numbers confusing. I would be interested in knowing what is the "current" family of routers that ASUS is actively supporting rather than the previous models that happen to be still receiving support since it is reasonable to assume they will...

    Plex WOL

My situation is different in that I have a NAS in the house which holds the movies and Plex. It sleeps until needed and auto-sleeps when not used. I use Linux as my main PC and there is a tool for Linux called Powerwake. I have created a desktop icon for "powerwake (MAC address of the NAS)" and...

Recommended 3G/4G routers to use with AC87U?

I briefly used the O2 Huawei 4g dongle while waiting for my Openreach connection to be installed (7 weeks) and was pleased with it. You can pick them up on a data-only sim. Normally they have a £40 fee for issuing the dongle (£16 up front, £1 a month till paid off but you can pay it off early...

    Site Survey timeout?

I am using 380.67 on my AC87U and I am wondering if there is a timeout for the Site Survey process? I am now in a very quiet rural area with no near neighbours and none of my devices can pick up even a glimmer of nearby wifi. When I click Wireless - Site Survey - Scan it displays the expected...

Can I bridge wifi and LAN to update my NAS?

I need some advice on whether I can bridge my wireless and lan connections to allow me to use my wifi from my main PC to update a wired device. I have an unRAID NAS running headless wired to my network switch. I have a desktop PC with a choice of Linux or Windows with both a wired connection to...

    RT-AC87U running hot.

I had the dehumidifier on to help dry some laundry so that helped warm the room somewhat but perhaps I should calibrate the sensor. It is just a digital Air temp sensor from my Aquaero6 and I have never calibrated it - it just helps measure air vs water delta for fan control. EDIT : Checked the...

Unable to move forward from 380.58_0

Silly question but are you using the correct version of the AC66U firmware? There are two models...

    RT-AC87U running hot.

Out of interest, what is your ambient temperature? It is a fair bit hotter than my 87U. At an ambient of 24C I am showing 44C (2.4GHz), 70C (5GHz), 75C (CPU) and all I have done to it is stand it on four small plastic feet.

    Switch usage questions?

Thanks for the reply. The phone points are separate - it was just the network points I was needing the advice for. Since there are ten network points plus the router, I was thinking a 16-port switch and it is nice to know that an unmanaged type is appropriate. We are very unlikely to be...

    Switch usage questions?

Hello folks - I am in the fortunate position of having a new residential property wired for cat6 and am at the point of having to sort out what is needed in the "network cupboard". I have only ever used a standard 4-port router before so would appreciate some advice. At the moment there will be...

    380.61 - Asus RT-AC87U rebooting 4-5 times a day

I am running 380.61 on my AC87U and have 21 days without any reboots. While I am only a light user with no USB devices or anything odd running on the router, I find 380.61 to be stable. If you check Administration - Performance Tuning, what temperatures are being reported? I have 2.4GHz, 5Ghz...

Wireless range inside timber framed house?

Thanks for all the tips folks. I will have a word with my Architect when we get to the wiring stage of the build which should be fairly soon and he does know I am needing network cabling. I will go for a central location for the router in the main corridor and avoid a cupboard. I will also...

Wireless range inside timber framed house?

Thanks for the suggestion, Tim. Do you think the range is within the capability of a single 87U? I have no idea how timber/plasterboard construction affects wifi. I just know that brick stops it dead. I don't have to worry about attic cabling since the property will have vaulted ceilings but I...

Wireless range inside timber framed house?

I am in the fortunate position of being able to move out of a small (75m2) brick flat (with brick internal walls) in a built-up (wifi-congested) area to a more rural (wifi-quiet) location in a larger (130m2) timber-framed new build single-storey dwelling and I was wondering about where to...

    Happy 4th anniversary to us!

My RT-N66U was the first router where I used your firmware too. I still have it boxed as a backup for my RT-AC87U (yes, yes - I know).

    RT-AC87U keeps locking up

I will watch and report the allocated memory used over the next few days before I switch firmware - I have just rebooted today and managed six and a half days from the last reboot.

    RT-AC87U keeps locking up

Just to give you a data point, Merlin, I am a very light user of my AC87U (3x wired, 3x 2.4GHz, 1x 5GHz) and believe I have the Traffic Monitor off since /jffs/traffic.db is 0 bytes. On a fresh reboot the router reported 73Mb RAM used. After 6d15h30m it reported 104Mb used. I get occasional...
