    RT-AC68U Repeater Problems since 386.*

I had the same problem with 386.1 on the 68U - random disconnects without any errors in the log on either the repeater or the base station. I did a factory reset on the repeater multiple times with no change. The condition was exacerbated by running ExpressVPN on a pc, which caused an almost...

Best way to improve my setup please.

WiFi 6 and AiMesh are largely marketing gimmicks that will not improve your situation. Listen to the advice above, these guys know their stuff. A little thought applied to the situation will be far more effective than just throwing more equipment at it.

Your Advice on Setting Up ASUS AiMesh with ExpressVPN

I use ExpressVPN on each device instead of the router. This allows access anywhere on mobile. A little research shows that there are some risks involved with using a VPN in China.

    Syslog "removal request"

    Ahhhhh, thanks!

    Syslog "removal request"

.100 is the repeater address (which is how I was reading it) ... maybe that conflicted witht the ISP and caused the lockup.

    Syslog "removal request"

I was wondering if it had anything to do with the repeater locking up.

    Syslog "removal request"

Repeater was offline and completely inaccessible this am and had to be turned off to restart. Conmon showed an outage last night, on resumption of service log shows a couple of these: Feb 16 01:33:03 lldpd[183]: removal request for address of 192.168.100.20%4, but no knowledge of it 86U /...

connmon connmon - Internet connection monitoring

Handy diagnostic tool, thanks. What's missing is a disable switch - in case you don't want to run it all the time.

    Wireless Wifi to metal building

I'm running 2-AC68Us in buildings 150' apart with dual band hi-gain antennas (1 on each router) at >400 Mbps. The antennas are from https://www.data-alliance.net/, they have a great selection quality stuff. I'm running the indoor version, but they have a weatherproof one for all of $20. I went...

Unable to upgrade from 386.x to 386.x

68U / 384.19 froze on boot after 386.1 update. Had to reset twice to get it working. Now it's running smooth and fast. Looks like the connection increased > 50 Mbps.

Unable to upgrade from 386.x to 386.x

I had to do multiple factory resets to get 386.1 installed.

    RT-AC68U AiMesh

If your devices are not switching maybe the routers are too close together. There is a roaming assistance setting to manage the (dis)connection level. As far as I can tell all mesh mode does is transfer all administration to the main router. In some envitonments (lots of nodes) this simplifies...

Possible problem with MESH nodes using Firmware version 386.1

^ As you've got it all figured out you shouldn't be wasting your time here.

    WiFi long range extender

Check out https://www.data-alliance.net for antennas. I'm running two dual band directional antennas (one on each router) and have a >400 Mbps connection between buildings 150' apart.

    RT-AC68U AiMesh

Try repeater mode. Speed is exactly the same as mesh, and you have more control over the repeating router.

ADVICE: Extend my RT-AC86U to create a mesh

Good comment about different SSIDs to force connections to different bands.

ADVICE: Extend my RT-AC86U to create a mesh

Without smart connect on the 68U, I use the same SSID for both bands and my wireless devices (IOS) switch seamlessly. You can set Roaming Assistant to adjust the level at which the connection to a node is disconnected. I have not found this to be necessary.

ADVICE: Extend my RT-AC86U to create a mesh

One is the router, the other is a repeater. In my situation (40 meter separation) I found that to be more reliable than the mesh. They will work seamlessly with the 86U.
