Converting a Cisco Ironport C170 to Opnsense router

I think you’re pretty close. You actually can a use third party DNS, I use the unbound resolver in forwarding mode (w/TLS enabled) with Cloudflare and pfblocker works fine, Q9 was just noticeably slower for me. When they say you need to use the resolver (unbound) for pfblocker that’s true it...

Converting a Cisco Ironport C170 to Opnsense router

pfblocker is more than just IP blocking, has a DNSBL portion as well, this portion can be a bit memory intensive based on you list size as it tries to block all forms/variants of a given base address (works pretty well vs Facebook, YouTube etc) (Someone more knowledgeable can do a better job...

    Firewalla Gold

I’ve tried both Snort and Suricata (separately of course) on pfsense just to experiment about 2 years ago. Didn’t really need them for my use case, so uninstalled. Lots options to tweak things to one’s liking in regards to alerts/blocks vs something simpler like a Firewalla, but that can be...

    Firewalla Gold

Yeah it's more consumer oriented and is probably still a relatively small team. I think it nice to have alternatives like this and they could have pretty promising future, I would probably reccomend this over pfSense for new users, I like pf and still use it, but for someone who wants a package...

    Recommendation on 10Gbe switch

There are a decent amount of options for 10Gbe NbaseT switches since the past few years (ie support for 2.5,5/10 GBPs) from various vendors like NETGEAR, Zyxel QNAP etc, prices are still relatively high though, so see if you really need it. Would be better getting something like a Zyxel XS1930...

    Cross flashing Qualcomm/Arris W6B to W6U?

If it's just a board ID difference in the firmware you could easily. Thats how one could cross flash between the R7800 and XR500 for example... Otherwise might require more work.

    Samsung 990 Pro NVME.

Rather than focusing too much on PCIE 4/5 I personally think people should pay more attention to Random 4K performance at QD1 that’s what you’d most likely notice in day to day use unless you are heavily doing sequential writes which for most people is not common unless using as a scratch disk...

Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E card disappoints with slower than expected speeds (Solved)

Yeah that can happen, happened to me once if you yank it with an especially tight antenna cable connected. Shouldn’t be too hard to re-solder, regardless I wouldn’t return it at this point.

Faster Wireless Download Speed Over Wired Connection Between PS5 and Netgear R7000

With the R7000’s BCM chipset from that generation to get near gig speeds you need to ensure things like QoS and traffic monitor turned off. Other wise cut through forwarding gets disabled if I recall dropping peak throughput to around 350-400 Mbps range. For those on stock, the R7000 still gets...

wiping my pc - recommendations please

You can format secondary partitions from Windows itself (ie other than C drive). You can just use the Windows installer to delete/format any partitions including the “c” drive if you are gonna be using the same hardware for the reinstall. Don’t need any separate software unless you are trying to...

    Intermittent Ping Spikes

If I recall even the Puma 7 was problematic as well. I’d get something like an the MB8600 or Arris SB8200 which is pretty well built (the latter I have used) and both use a BCM 3390 chipset.

Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E card disappoints with slower than expected speeds (Solved)

WD SSDs not sure if it’s fixed recently, but they had issues dropping to lower power states, well at least the SN750 did, which would result in lower laptop battery life. I’d probably go for an Sk Hynix excellent battery life and performance, hard to beat the price value for what you get. I’d...

    AX411 - $18.75

https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi Kernel 5.14 it seems is what’s needed at minimum for 411/211.

Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E card disappoints with slower than expected speeds (Solved)

It’s not even just having cnvio2, to have the latest gen card the PCH needs to support it. The 411 will afaik only work with Alderlake based systems and newer upcoming Raptor Lake based ones. Pretty sure you can go backwards but not forwards compatibility wise within cnvio2 (or within 1...

    AX411 - $18.75

Do keep us updated if can you get some additional data at some point. I can’t use the AX411 for tests as I have no Alderlake machines sadly. As with the other board (sadly missed) I still think you got a bad/unit batch or simply drivers matured by the time the 210 was out. :) At least from my...

    AX411 - $18.75

I wouldn’t expect differences in a straight up speed test as the AX200/210/411 are relatively the same chips aside from latter two having 6 GHz. You’d need to have like simultaneous transfers/tests to see a difference. Try like a simultaneous upload and download test.

    ARCTIC the liar Case fans.

I was not a fan of the P12 either, noisy as heck (I think pack of 5 for less than $30), had the 3 pin (DC not PWM) version Microcenter recommended saying it was much cheaper than the Noctua NF-A12s (Best case fans for me) which I had used before. Noctuas are expensive ($33 for black variant, I...

Let us know how double connect goes Techjunky. Try to get us some benchmarks if you can.

    AX411 - $18.75

Not a drop in replacement card, likely need an Alderlake based machine for it to work, it’s cnvio2.

    What versions/builds of Windows officially support Wi-Fi 6E (6GHz)

Warranty technically won’t cover it if 6Ghz wasn’t even advertised in the first place. Dell’s generally extremely lenient in my experience to consumer demands if you push them, so I guess it doesn’t hurt to try… Could try to mod the bios/UEFI if you have the right extraction tools. Probably not...
