    ASUS Security Issues

    I came across these today.

Looking at purchasing a new WiFi7 AP. Deciding on brand to go with.

I have never had to dust my Cisco wireless APs. I have used 3 sets in the last 15 years. My latest Cisco 150ax APs have only been running for over a year. They are quiet and only use 4 small screws in the mount to attach to the ceiling. You can move them and nobody will notice. I have done...

Looking at purchasing a new WiFi7 AP. Deciding on brand to go with.

If you want to cut power after buying APs then dump the ASUS and all the extra NICs in the Pfsense router. That will save you a bunch of watts. You won't need it as you have a better network now.

Bit of a noob when it comes to finding a router - any budget recommendations?

Choose the slower wireless network like some advice on these forums.

Looking at purchasing a new WiFi7 AP. Deciding on brand to go with.

Why Wi-Fi 7? Is it because you don't have any APs and you want to improve your network. They will allow you to use VLANs and multiple different channels at the same time. It will be a network improvement. Wi-Fi 7 is still kind of early and may require you to replace them in the short term...

Bit of a noob when it comes to finding a router - any budget recommendations?

I think if you have around 2000 sq ft or bigger you need to go multiple APs and not even screw with a small system as it traps you and you waste money. Start with 2 APs and then add more if you want high speed. Your system will be much faster with 2 active APs running at the same time. You...

Bit of a noob when it comes to finding a router - any budget recommendations?

My daughter lives in a 1990 to 2ooo sq ft house with 4 bedrooms and a office in the front of her house. No way can I cover her house with 1 wireless. She has 2 bathrooms and a kitchen in the middle with tile. The tile, refrig and top microwave block signal to the office. Basically, I figure...

Looking for replacement of power hungry SAN

Too bad you are not close as would have sold you my server rack cheap. I have 3 SuperMicro servers in it which you can replace the motherboard in. It is a four-foot rack on wheels with ball bearing pull outs. It also has a large rack mount APC in the bottom.

News Might want to consider not using Chrome (or MS Edge)

My daughter told me yesterday she has an issue on her Windows 10 PC. I wonder if it is from her using chrome and not rebooting very often to get chrome updates? I don't use Chrome any more after I was hacked through some sounds files years ago. I use edge now only.

    RAID 5 vs RAID 6 ??

If you have 20 or 30 people using it then you will have to.

    Building a Homelab

My guess is your wireless would not work well. If you turned off wireless on the wireless routers and used 2 APs it might work. I think you would be better off building a real network business class. Wireless routers are too limited when it comes to building real networks with lots of...

    RAID 5 vs RAID 6 ??

A write cache will allow you to write to the NAS and it will be cached. Then written out if the heads are close or as it fits in the Q to where it is efficient to write the data. This really speeds things up on a server. The bad thing is the data will be corrupt if you lose power.

    RAID 5 vs RAID 6 ??

Will when you write the finished video it will interrupt reading if you don't have write cache. This is very important if you have multi-user RAID. Single user not so much. Things like the heads on the drives in the RAID have to reposition for the write through with no cache. It hurts...

Synology WiFi 6e or 7 Router?

Probably too early to buy right now as Wi-Fi 7 is beta for both hardware and software. If you buy it now, I doubt it will be for long term. Wi-Fi 7 is a product for play now not long-term investment.

Bit of a noob when it comes to finding a router - any budget recommendations?

Yea, relative...I am not happy with 2.4GHz speed. I run fast CPUs on my laptops. Think i9. iPhone, it scrolls pictures much slower using 2.4 GHz. So, I guess it depends on what quality of network you want. All relative. I build my wireless networks for 5GHz.

Bit of a noob when it comes to finding a router - any budget recommendations?

If you are in a small place then 1 wireless router will work. Anything bigger start moving into a small business class system with multiple APs.

General question re. wifi devices disconnecting and reconnecting

My guess is if you are running all the APs on the same channel then it would be a mesh system regardless of layer 1, wire or wireless, as mesh is a redundant system. Have you tried using different radio channels? In which case it would not be mesh as you are not backing up the same channel...

Looking for replacement of power hungry SAN

You are going to notice a difference between a 69-watt CPU and a 25-watt CPU. Heat wise, costs wise not so much. Your CPU fan should be quiet at 25-watt. My 10gig Cisco switch runs fans in the summer here in Texas during the day. This is Cisco small business switch so it is much quieter than...

Model with the strongest wifi signal?

If you use the ceiling for APs you don't have to cut any walls. You just make a small hole to where the CAT cable comes out and plugs into the AP. I dedicated a closet shelf to home run all cables for the POE switch. Ran patch cables up into the attic and punched a small hole in the ceiling...

Mesh system for large home, outdoor patio, and detached shop

If you have to go under a side walk you can use a garden hose to make a hole underneath the sidewalk to run a black water pipe under.
