Cisco RV340 Router new firmware Upgrade

in a busy network, it may not be possible to update when the network is idle.

    Help networking a school

The way i see this, your school only needs 4 APs. One in the central area, and one at the central are of each side of the T. Set 5Ghz to max, and adjust the 2.4Ghz power accordingly so that they cover all areas but overlap little. The wifi bandwidth is limited by physical space and clients, not...

    Draytek 2862 or Cisco RV260P

SoC is the central chip they use, its entirely an entire computer on a chip including the CPU, making it cheap and easy to design computers. routers are also computers. Pick between whichever fits your needs best. Draytek is better on the modem so if thats what you want to focus on then get...

    ASUS or Ubiquiti

some consumer brands like asus on the higher end have wifi routers that also have QoS on wifi too. You will not find this on ubiquiti or other enterprise routers except configurable ones, because mikrotik is capable of QoS for anything that uses the CPU and i have read articles of where mikrotik...

Would I benefit from DOCSIS 3.1?

bufferbloat can be reduced at the router, at the modem not really as all its doing is just converting between mediums. DOCSIS 3.1 will help over older standards as theres more bandwidth in total for everyone as the architecture involves shared bandwidths.

Are UBNT Switches a good choice? 8 port POE

most likely power cord and input voltage.

    Draytek 2862 or Cisco RV260P

When it comes to modems however draytek makes one of the best multi DSL modems. For instance if you want to load balance 2 DSL connections draytek will do it well as it integrates multiple modems. If one is considering the cisco RV, i'd rather ubiquiti.

    ASUS or Ubiquiti

Both, considering that these routers do not fail to thousands of torrent connections. The ARM based SoC consumer routers do a good job handling lots of things at the same time. If you want hardware acceleration, ubiquiti is obviously better, but without hardware acceleration you might as well...

    Draytek 2862 or Cisco RV260P

as modem, draytek, draytek make very good modems which are also solid routers for those that dont need features. I still advice against the cisco RV because of the SoC and im still not convinced about its firmware stability.

    ASUS or Ubiquiti

The asus AC68U and netgear R7000 have been known to handle hundreds of clients at the same time without breaking. Its not about consumer or enterprise, its about what your goal is for the network. If you want speed, go with asus for wifi, if you want coverage and features like POE, and possible...

    Edgerouter 12 vs Mikrotik RB4011

you can copy/divert invalid packets to wireshark/sniffer and see what they are. as you said above, the erl is a problem, as long as they base the design on the older er-8/erpro it should not have the same problem.

Homeplug AV2 with longer distances over 400'

Thats not much, whats the land area you used? An average american home consumes around 800KWh per month (1+ KWh average), so that means you can fully power 2 average american homes on the worst.

    Edgerouter 12 vs Mikrotik RB4011

different rules. If you read the link he is saying things that terminate at the router like l2 packets and such are considered invalid and appear on stats, something other routers dont do.
  14. S

    Edgerouter 12 vs Mikrotik RB4011

Its the way they consider a connection. Are you having any issues with mikrotik in terms of it working when you are seeing invalid packets? Its just a difference in how they consider something and report things to you. https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=127846 should answer your...

Your thoughts on this security device

i dont have to read to know what it is, a lot of the security features needed even for smart homes can be done via a configurable router.

Homeplug AV2 with longer distances over 400'

How many KWh do you generate in winter? Thats a nice solar array you got there. You can even construct an organised storage shed and even your own batteries too. Most solar arrays only point in 1 angled direction rather than having 2 arrays next to each other pointing in different angles would...

Buy now or wait for WiFi 6 and wpa3.........

Clients will also be slow to come out with the new wifi standards. I still have devices that are 2.4Ghz wifi N only.

    TP-Link Archer C7 V2, V3, V4, V5?

since this is tplink, the version you get matters. Some are better with openwrt, some worse. Make sure to check the differences and ask the seller before buying

Gigabit switch that is a real gigabit switch???

I would suggest the netgear prosafe too, there are plenty of alternatives but i always avoid dlink. Netgear routers are overpriced or unreliable from experience. You can also consider tplink, zyxel and if you are adventurous used cisco, dell, hp switches, or you can go for one of the currently...

Are UBNT Switches a good choice? 8 port POE

The company is secure but unreliable. Their investor brochure calls their fans fanatics. Quite a lot of shady things, for sure they'll be around for long, but whether or not they are a good company is another thing. You can also go with a POE based netgear switch too. Just remember that UBNT...
