    I had something similar. 2.4 would not work until I turned off smart connect.

    I had same issue. Same cable modem! Cloning MAC did not seem to help. Tried a Negear ax12 router. Similar. Said WAN cable unplugged or something like that. That was truly a POS router!     I have concluded that my "red lights of death" are caused by my cable modem disconnecting. All the lights stay on, it doesn't lose sync. Modem log's look horrible! Signals look fine. Too many T3's, dynamic range bla bla bla. PITA! At least I know that my 86u is 10 times better than that netgear...

    ^^^^ Is this red light a wanduck problem? I have network monitoring disabled. Ping and DNS. How do you completely disable this for good?

    So this red light of death, your ISP's DHCP does not function properly, seems to actually be a Comcast issue. I have been getting it every day lately. I thought cloning the mac address fixed it. Nope. Can I clone the cable cable modem mac address? Haven't tried that yet. I can't test it right...

    Red light of death again this AM on the 86u. Unplugged router and pressed power to drain residual. Booted and the light was pink. Then I rebooted modem with router on. White again and works. Make my router LED white again :P

    Red light of death tonight. You ISP's DHCP is not functioning properly or something. Middle LED on router is red. Is this an 86U only problem? To fix, I have turn off router, unplug the power, and press the power button on router. I can see an LED flash briefly on a USB hub indicating residual...

    Currently on stock FW I fixed by turning off smart connect. Over 25 - 2.4ghz devices instantly connected. I have never touched that and it was always on. Going back to Merlin.
