latest merlin & aimesh on AX86U not working.

I've had similar experience with latest released Merlin for AX88U. Running Merlin on the Router, stock Asus on nodes in AI Mesh. I've had success setting it up with ethernet plugged in, then moving the node. AC86U is wired backhaul and AC55 is wifi backhaul. Main AX88U - Merlin 386.5_2 Mesh...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.6 is now available for select models

Looks like it is on the way... Merlin 386.7 alpha1 for AC68U https://www.snbforums.com/threads/386-7-alpha-build-s-testing-available-build-s.78901/

Username and Password invalid when trying to access AiMesh Nodes

Using PuTTY? input the node's IP, SSH port (same as your router), use your routers Admin ID and Admin PWD. Should get you to the command console in the node.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

This worked... took the fw down to 386.4, reset, rebooted several times, flashed to 386.5_2, reset, tried to add as mesh node, unsuccessful. Flashed Official AC68U 386_46065, reset, success adding as mesh node to AX88U running Merlin 386.5_2. Thank you @capncybo, @ColinTaylor, all who commented...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Rest assured I'm going to try everything before resorting to forced low-level partition write. And I'll be patient for @RMerlin to comment. Either way, this router is EOL for me, just an excuse for me to recover it, give it to one of my kids and get a new AP, extender. IF it goes full brick with...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Plot thickens... logging on with SCP, attempt to upload Asus OE fw for AC68u ~98k file size, the upload errors out with not enough space. And SCP reports ~ 85k uploaded. I could free up some space by deleting the .dict files for languages I don't need, but there's more going on. Factory reset...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Thank you! Exactly what I asked for! Was about to proceed with Merlin's guide here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/faq-nvram-and-factory-default-reset.22822/ But with your caution note on filesize, I'll also hold for a bit to see if @Merlin jumps in with an update. TIA

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

I'm too damn fast to fix it! We have internet via the AX88U... and we both work from home mostly these days. The AC68U is an older main, repurposed for node, as is the AC86U. That will be a hard sell now...shot myself in my own foot! So, back on topic... Anyone recommend next steps, now that...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Nope... do it once and you never do that again. But yeah, something to consider. What's really, really odd. I can't use the reset button to put it into recovery and reset. But, if reboot normally I connect it to my network through lan ports and It shows up on the lan. Trying to open the admin...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Update... AC68U is bricked. I put into restoration mode - slow flashing power light, but firmware restoration tool does not detect, times out with a "not in restoration mode" message. I am unable to flash back to standard release. Any recommendations? Or is this the excuse I've been looking for...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Quick update... Issues with installing the 386.5_1... Upgraded my main AX88U, Mesh Node AC86U and Mesh Node AC68U. I lost my AC86U node after everything settled, couldn't get it to rejoin no matter what. Ended up factory reset AX88U and manual setup. Still couldn't add on AC86U Node, and lost...

    386.5 Alpha1?

    I spy the AC86U Alpha 2!

    386.5 Alpha1?

Especially looking forward to this "Fixed AiMesh guest network issues." found in the changelog... Updated AX88U, AC68P to the new Alpha1 yesterday, 18hr all seems running well. Looking forward to the AC86U drop.

    ad blocking

My 2 cents.. Dual Pi 3b+, one plain vanilla UI, the other dark theme so I can tell which at a glance. Both with same block list, white list and unbound. These have been up without fail using the same SD card for ~ 9 months.

    Firewalla

or opnSense. A separate x86 device, preferably with 3x ethernet - 1 in, 1 out, 1 for console monitoring. On another note, there has been some discussion and instructions on running Suricata on new'ish quad core Asus routers if you're looking for all-inclusive device. IIRC throughput maxes around...

Limiting router to certain countries only & brute force attack protection

Confirmed, I have Skynet running with a long list of blocked countries in the blacklist option.

    Speedtest giving strange value

Thank you for the info. I'm trying Skynet now with inbound off and outbound monitoring on. Initial UI speedtests show similar results. Will play with it for a day or two to see what it looks like. Note IPv6 disabled on my network.

    Speedtest giving strange value

Skynet will slow things down. You can set Skynet to monitor incoming traffic only (Opt 11, opt 4) and use a filtering DNS to block adds and malicious sites. I have 3-4 go-to test sites in the region that I try for the UI speedtest. Invariably, 1 or 2 will give me a reading of full throughput and...

    Skynet Skynet and VOIP.ms - 208.100.60.0/24 blocked

I had a similar experience... I added the 2 POP IPs for Voip.ms that I use to the Whitelist in Skynet. Everything started working immediately.
