    Please advise which router?

From an ISP bandwidth perspective, no - neither AC or AX will get you much. From a supported perspective though it's another matter. That said, given your post mentioning you only have mainly N devices I get the impression old age and lack of support (including security fixes) doesn't matter...

    Please advise which router?

I should set up a shop - there's an N66U in the office drawer!

    Please advise which router?

I knew there was a reason I hadn't thrown that old WRT54G out. There was me thinking I was just a hoarder that never got around to clearing the attic!

Trying to use Quad9 with new ASUS RT-AX88U Pro

What DNS servers are being offered under the DHCP tab? You've shown WAN DNS settings (what the router itself will use) and that DNS director is enabled but not the DNS server that your routers DHCP is telling clients to use - which (I believe) is what DNS director will enforce.

    Please advise which router?

From what you've said so far, I'd still be looking to find a way to make the cabling work - longer runs, trunking for protection, cutting a channel in the screed etc. I get not buying a router where you don't need it's capabilities - I'm still running an AC88U as I don't need AX speeds and it...

    Please advise which router?

While I'm puzzled at the determination to stay on older, generally nearing end of life, tech I won't dig further on that given the discussion so far. Can I ask what it is that makes a cable an "impossible" option?

a few quick questions about NAS (QNAP vs. Synology, and other)

I'm a little surprised at the discussion on raid5 given the disk size. For a long time now there's been a school of thought that the stress of a rebuild process has too high a chance of a second disk failure for big disks in a raid5 setup. For example...

    I'm new - router recommendations?

Interesting to see the variations - thanks for the responses. Canada seems to benefit against US pricing (judging by exchange rates) where the UK gets the good old "just swap the currency symbol" treatment. Depressingly a number of places here are still selling AC routers for the same amount...

    I'm new - router recommendations?

What prices is the AX88 Pro going for in Canada and US? UK pricings remain stubbornly high for even AX routers. Looks like current pricing is about £350 or $420 - quite a way above your scalper price!

PXE boot for installing Windows via router USB

How much control does the Synology give you over the dhcp setup? Is it using dnsmasq? If so on the latter it should be fairly simple - I've got dnsmasq running on a Pi comfortably for nothing more than serving boot requests. DHCP is still running on the router.

Parental control - limiting no of h per day

Not the best option but as a proxy approach I wonder if a script to track based on time the device is attached to the WiFi would be simpler. The device users would need to be disciplined turning WiFi off when they're not using their devices though. There are still challenges with mac address...

    Which Ad-Blocker

Pi-hole with automated firebog list updates. (And hooked in to voice control for extra WAF so she can temporarily disable it when she needs to.) Prefer it to diversion but haven't tried adguardhome - not had a need to. From everything I've seen it's six of one, half a dozen of the other...

Newbie confusion between unmanaged and managed switch speeds

This is just asking for a thread of analogies to suit different experiences and backgrounds! I like it though!

Thousands of cheap 64-core AMD EPYC CPUs have gone on sale on eBay, Aliexpress

While I agree with the sentiment, and think any company considering their ESG rating should be asking "how do I unlock these for reuse when I'm done" there is another reality that certain elements are simply destroyed at that point in theirblifeon the grounds of security. (It's a more obvious...

Do you wall mount your routers?

I've been running my router wall mounted for years - AC88u, N66U before than and a WRT54G before that... For me it's down to a combination of location for WiFi and also being able to hide it out of the way. From an Asus perspective there aren't many wall mountable routers I know of but the...

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

Just wanted to say thanks to @BreakingDad for starting this thread and inspiring me to get some of the older classics running again. (And I'm surprised how much seems as if it could be playable despite the age of the machine!) The question may be how long until the lure of more recent games...

    48 port Switch vs 24, 16, 8 etc.

Must admit, while my home usage is way below many (including yours) I've never had problems with ports going bad - cables and connectors yes but not ports. When considering switch sizes though the answer will depend on the topology you're trying to run. Do you prefer bigger switches because...

"Preferred" way for router to serve local DNS

What do you define as "a period of time" after the reboot? In the setup you describe, the resolution relies on known DHCP data - the reboot clears that information and you have to wait for it to repopulate as the clients refresh their leases. Default lease times of a day mean this can take 12...

    Planning wired home network

I'll leave the questions around grounding and power interference to others but are you sure on that temperature range for the loft? The lofts have a nasty habit of concentrating heat at times and getting quite a bit hotter in the summer. What sort of operating temperature range does the kit...
