    Looks like it's just a rainproof fiber junction box, transferring from the outdoor/underground-spec material to something wispy through the wall behind it for indoor feed to the indoor ONT.

    The current (both branches) of Asus firmware for this router have "fdisk" symlinked to busybox and /usr/sbin/mkntfs /usr/sbin/mkfs.ubifs /usr/sbin/mkfs.ext3 /usr/sbin/mkfs.ext2 /usr/sbin/mkfatfs /usr/sbin/mke2fs /sbin/mkswap same as the current Merlin firmware.     How many antenna leads did you (have available to) connect to the card? If only one, that's the best you can do. If two antennas, then it's a distance / obstruction issue /if/ the access point is indeed broadcasting at 160MHz channel-bonding /and/ the computer is actually configured correctly...

    I believe the broadcaster operates in whichever mode it's connected during the send mode to said client. Capable-of-160 doesn't mean it transmits as-if-160 to a 40-associated client. Doesn't stand to reason otherwise.

    If you're at all adventurous I'd like to see you try the access points as APs and A/B the system that way against as a "mesh". Ignoring the "loss" of both a propagated VLAN "guest network" and "central management", I believe you'll appreciate the intra-network performance improvement available...

    Obviously such a case would be excluded from consideration in reference to what I'd said. I was speaking in generalities and you introduced something specific, which may in fact be the/an underlying issue, but at this point that's /also/ speculation.

    I've been on sym. 500Mb fiber for several years and don't foresee "upping" it unless price dictates differently. I'm running an un"meshed" pair of XT8s, wired. Hard to argue against being able to place one on a living-room end-table... Not that I'm necessarily suggesting you go that route...
