EOL ASUS routers affected by TheMoon malware

Thanks. No luck, it just works. Forever.

EOL ASUS routers affected by TheMoon malware

Say what you will, but this is the kind of stuff why I'm in the process of getting rid of all Broadcom-based Asus devices (of mine, friends or clients') and switching to OpenWrt. As long as the router has at least 8 or 16 MB of flash, there's really no such thing as EOL or lack of support with...

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

@heywire I think it would be better to just calm down for a minute. Your current approach will not convince @RMerlin to update the AC86U and AC68U to a newer GPL, that's for sure. Instead, a constructive "please" would probably go a long way, though.

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

None. I only would have liked to get a final, properly working GPL update, so we can enjoy it for 10 more years  Is that so much to ask after 10 years of support for a seemingly good product? Maybe. The stop is too abrupt.

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

The drama was written all over the wall, I knew this was coming :p

Current plans regarding separate version branches

@heywire Sell the AC86U and move on. Time better spent.

Current plans regarding separate version branches

@heywire If I were you, I'd quickly sell that AC86U, while the price is still OK (considering the EOL announcement). Just my 2 cents. Edit: Just checked eBay... oops, there's a ton of them up for sale for very low prices. Well, there goes my advice :-)

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

I would have liked a newer GPL to be merged, as promised not so long ago... but hey, it's not the end of the world.

Current plans regarding separate version branches

Hmm, the fence-sitting regarding my Asus AC devices got resolved for me within 24 hours, much less than what I would have expected... which is nice! Suddenly OpenWrt running on some newer MediaTek chip-based device with HW NAT looks all the more enticing, especially considering the price tags...

Current plans regarding separate version branches

That's a bummer. 386_51997 seems to be buggy...

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

It doesn't seem like that, see https://www.snbforums.com/threads/current-plans-regarding-separate-version-branches.89312/page-2#post-898590

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

Well, this is surprising: AC68U, AC86U, AC88U are all EOL https://www.asus.com/event/network/eol-product/

    [ 386.13 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Has anyone tested this build? It's just strange that many users complain about the 386.12 versions, but AFAICS not even one report of trying 386.13 alpha to see if things improve.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12_6 is now available for AC models

What you are saying here defeats the whole purpose of it. If your colleague's config is one that doesn't bring the issues to light, then that's not evidence, just anecdotes. For example, let's say your colleague restarts his AC68U every night. He will probably won't report anything of issue to...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12_6 is now available for AC models

As @bibikalka said above, 386.7_2 was one of the most stable versions (GPL 386_48966), so it's worth a try, @heywire . Then stability issues started occurring with newer GPLs, as far as I can see: 386.9 - 386.11 (GPL 386_50757) 386.12+ (GPL 386_51997)

    [ 386.13 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

I was hoping for a GPL update, since versions 386_50000+ seem to be buggy. oh, well...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12_6 is now available for AC models

@heywire It's some sort of memory leak related to hotplug, very interesting. Perhaps @RMerlin can tell us more. This comes to mind: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/usb-hotplug-event.81708/

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12_6 is now available for AC models

I was just wondering whether a newer GPL wouldn't perhaps fix some of the issues reported lately for the AC models (i.e. when using 386.9 - 386.11 based on GPL 50757 and 386.12 based on GPL 51997).
