Can't login when device has hostname six or fewer characters long

Purely speculation, but I think it’s because the HTTP header ‘Referer’ is too short. When you navigate to http://abcde, httpd would redirect you to the login page with ‘Referer: abcde’, and there’s probably a check for it and only accepts domains longer than 5 chars, as to why, I don’t know...

VLAN Guest WIFI isolation, AP Mode

You’re right, my reply wasn’t well thought out. Obviously the right way to do it is VLANs but unfortunately robocfg is rather undocumented and Broadcom haven’t released new tools for VLAN management, that’s why Merlin is reluctant to include a GUI for VLAN setup in the firmware. Most people know...

Internet Sometimes Stops Working, Sometimes Says Incorrect Password

Yeah, that’s one of the symptoms some were seeing with 384.5, I don’t think it’ll directly affect other devices though.

Internet Sometimes Stops Working, Sometimes Says Incorrect Password

Some saw stability improvements (especially in 2.4Ghz which is more probed to interference) using 384.6 alpha2. So if it’s annoying you too much might be worth it to give that a try and keep all the settings you like the same way they were. Personally I’ve been using alpha2 and it’s been more...

Internet Sometimes Stops Working, Sometimes Says Incorrect Password

I’ve seen it but only during busy hours (after dinner and before midnight) when everyone close by is using their Wifi heavily. If it still happens try turning off Roam Assist too. Which firmware version are you using?

Internet Sometimes Stops Working, Sometimes Says Incorrect Password

Try turning off Smart Connect and Airtime Fairness.

Internet Sometimes Stops Working, Sometimes Says Incorrect Password

Just set the SSIDs to be identical, you don’t ‘rely’ on Smart Connect. You only want Smart Connect when you easily saturate one band and would like the router to automatically kick your device to another. Just because it’s never given you a problem doesn’t mean it’ll work flawlessly forever...

Internet Sometimes Stops Working, Sometimes Says Incorrect Password

Does it only happen during prime times (when everyone is streaming Netflix in your neighbourhood)? Maybe you can try turning off Smart Connect and manually set a channel instead of ‘auto’. Use some kind of analyzer to find the channels least used.

Is there a speed difference between LAN or Wifi?

    Is this AC3100 dead?

Since it’s second hand it’s probably out of the warranty window? If that’s the case pop the case open to see if there are any damaged components you can observe visually.

    Was it the latest stock?

VLAN Guest WIFI isolation, AP Mode

Disable DHCP, NAT, and the firewall. Edit: This won’t work if guest wifi does not have access to intranet.

RT-AC86U - multiple link down errors

From your description, yes. Just return/exchange for another unit from wherever you got this one, go the Asus/RMA route if that fails.

    Fixed Wireless LTE pfSense router

    Right, makes sense.

I would like to kill some of the processes permanently

Like @ColinTaylor said, memcached is distinct from mcpd. Of all the ones you've listed, lpd (LPRng) is the only one that's open source and third party, therefore possible to have patches to be applied (otherwise Asus would have to patch them and Merlin would pull them in, which he does...

Check the cable and whatever device is plugged in there.

I would like to kill some of the processes permanently

Name one of these modules. You’ll be better off securing your local network via segmentation than worrying about which process to kill because “it increases the attack surface”.
