[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS - DNS over TLS Beta - CLOSED

Aug 11 17:43:45 (none) daemon.info dnsmasq[703]: using nameserver 127.0.0.1#5453 B6 on N66U with DoTLS, working well. Good work, John. You saved many people on having to buy new routers when these older models work well for the majority of us using "high speed broadband", well, by American...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS - DNS over TLS Beta - CLOSED

DoT isn't working either on my N66U, of course only tried Cloudflare. No time to diagnose right now unless I want to deal with a family without internet, then this place becomes a warzone.

Yes, that's what I meant. Understandable. Thanks.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

On a very minor note, I login to the router several times a day lately and I keep getting the username/password prompt despite "Auto Logout" set to 0 to disable and cookies still stored. Seems it's been this way since using John's firmware. Anyone else?

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Working well on my N66U. For most of us with >100Mb internet, our older routers still serve us well so your efforts aren't in vain, John. You should post a donation link so you're at least somewhat supplemented for your time and work. Thanks and may you continue to be blessed by Odin.

RE: Upgrading... Yes, easy as cake to upgrade now.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Ah, ok. In that case you can use the DNSCrypt option (DNS over HTTPS) which, afaik, provides the same function and complements DNSSEC. There's also an entware package "stubby" if you want DNS over TLS. So I don't think Merlin's DNS implementation supports it just yet though it's been a while...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Yes. Where it says "Enable DNSSEC support", enable it. While I'm here, thanks John for your work on this fork. This seems to be the only fully working firmware left for the N66U that's still updated.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Is there a practical difference in ping and signal strength on the N66U? Is it enough to justify moving from Merlin's mainline? I know some routers have such bloated firmware that ping time to the router and client can be atrocious, which isn't the case for me @ >1ms from upstairs, but it's not...

[Alpha] Pre-release test builds available (both 380 and 382 branches)

380.69 alpha working well for me on N66U. I hope, Merlin, that you can continue to do your magic on this model for a good while longer since it's always been solid and I get a good signal even upstairs. My internet's not fast enough to need a new one yet.

Potential LAN transfer speed for N66U

Thanks for the response. I'm thinking of upgrading the my wifi adapters soon just for the wlan to wlan speed but it looks like I'd also have to upgrade the router to make use of those. Something like this can handle 450mb on an N connection while the N66U seems like the CPU would top out at...

Potential LAN transfer speed for N66U

My lan speed seems to top out at 13MB/s with current wifi devices on the LAN and my router is using ~50% cpu. Does this mean that my N66U only has a potential LAN wifi speed of 26MB/s (megabytes so we're clear)? What kinds of speeds are everyone else getting with their new-fangled internet thingies?

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 380.67 Beta is now available

Vsftpd ✓ Tor ✓ openvpn ✓ Working great on my N66U as usual. You are the master of my domain, Merlin.

    Issues with multiple wifi clients

I'll try also. For an issue caused by such ubiquitous hardware and seemingly simple problem, the apathy in fixing this is confusing. Maybe it should be stated somewhere when being sold that it's incompatible with Apple products if indeed it is because it's a hell of an issue to have to figure...

    Issues with multiple wifi clients

15 down, 1 up. Doesn't take much to saturate my upload. Just did your option, I misunderstood at first, to limit upload bandwidth and hopefully will help.

    Issues with multiple wifi clients

Thanks. Come to think of it, don't think I had connection issues when the iphone user was away. I turned on traditional QOS, N66U doesn't have the fancier QOS option, so maybe it'll help.

    Issues with multiple wifi clients

1 iphone and a couple android tablets and phones. Yes on the second and I think yes to the third question. But this happens seemingly randomly but it does seem to happen almost every weekend when they're over including some weekdays when visiting and when not, I rarely ever have issues. But a...

    Issues with multiple wifi clients

When I have certain guests with wifi devices, I lose internet access and can't access my cable modem's setup page which is bridged to my N66U. I rarely ever have issues but when I have a few guests over using wifi, that's when I lose internet access. I can still access the N66U setup page, I...

    [Preview] Asuswrt-Merlin 380.64 test builds

Sorry to bother you. I put more time into figuring this out today and uMatrix either enabled or disabled seems to be the culprit; sometimes it works, sometimes not. I thought I ruled it out at one point but guess I didn't. Thanks. Edit: Apparently I had the user-agent option enabled and since it...

    [Preview] Asuswrt-Merlin 380.64 test builds

In Firefox for seemingly the past couple firmwares and on all the pages except Traffic Manager, the tabs are separated from the content, example below. A simple margin fix will cure it: .FormTitle { margin-top:-100px !important; } Edit: uMatrix was the problem.
