    [ 388.2 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

It may be the later kernels consume more resources and also may not offer any real advantages in the limited use case of a wifi router. Most users of RMerlin are doing a lot more with these home routers than was ever intended by Asus.

Eero pro 6 vs Asus xt8

To be clear, I really like the Asus wifi router user interface and even better when running RMerlin firmware. It offers a plethora of user configurable settings, maybe too many. Running in stand alone "mode" with it being the only wifi router on your network it does a decent job. I need to find...

Eero pro 6 vs Asus xt8

I am confident that was posted in jest as @Tech9 and I have had numerous exchanges concerning Asus AiMesh. :)

    RT-AC68U OpenVPN Server Slow

I misread his ISP speeds. I thought it was 1000DL/350UL not 1000DL/35UL. :)

    RT-AC68U OpenVPN Server Slow

The RT-AC68U has NO hardware acceleration and your VPN speeds are within what is to be expected. If you want to stay with an Asus solution, you need to move to newer, more powerful hardware such as an RT-AX86U/S or similar.

Eero pro 6 vs Asus xt8

Disclaimer.... TLDR: AiMesh sucks there are better solutions available..... :) I realize this is an old thread but yes, I have tried several different Asus solutions over the past year. Here are my various solutions I tried: 2 - RT-AC1900P in wired Mesh 2 - RT-AC86U in wired Mesh - This...

    TP-Link ER605

I am holding off on the Omada solution. So far, my setup is working great. I may revisit it at some later time.

    Ranger802004 Dual WAN Script Question

Uncheck the “Allow failback” option on the Asus Daul WAN setup page and reboot the router. The script will take over doing the failover duties. The error message about unsupported firmware version is just a warning. It will probably still work.

    Asus XT8 Hardware Version Difference

If you purchased them from Amazon, go ahead and give them a try. You can always return them if they don’t work for you.

    GT-AX6000 Node - 2.5Gbps LAN issue

For my network, the “old” eero Pro units have a far superior wifi mesh operation than any of the various Asus units I have tried in the past year. I am still contemplating the Omada solution but the little I have played with it, it looks more involved than I really want at this time.

    AiMesh & Asuswrt-Merlin

How did you find out about the Turris products? I am curious about the company and their history.

The Asus ZenWiFi AX XT8 is a POS, right?

When I was testing a pair of XT8 I too discovered that the 42095 firmware was the only version that worked.

    Dual WAN issues RT-86ACU

Are you running the stock firmware or RMerlin firmware? If you are running RMerlin firmware, you should be able to use the OpenVPN Server of the Asus router. You will need to use a DDNS service to make sure you have a hostname mapped to the current internet WAN IP address. To make it simple...

    Dual WAN issues RT-86ACU

The ER605 allows both WAN ports to participate in the DMZ to the downstream router.

    Dual WAN issues RT-86ACU

You would place each of the ER605 WAN ports in a DMZ of their respective ISP devices. Setup the ER605 for Dual WAN Load Balance, then place your Asus router in a DMZ on the ER605. Yes this is a lot of NATing but it works. This is what I am currently doing and it works very well.

Mesh system: 2400 sq ft - Wireless backhaul only

I will add my .02 on the XT8….. stay away from them. I tried them last year and they were nothing but flaky, even with trying a wired backhaul. I had an old pair of the CT8 that worked better, but even they had issues. I know there are newer firmware versions available now for the XT8 but there...

    GT-AX6000 vs RT-AX86U ??

As it happens, I already have the OC200 :)

    GT-AX6000 vs RT-AX86U ??

No, no way to disable or schedule the updates. This a THE major complaint of eero users. For the most part they work pretty good. But lately, they, like other wifi router manufacturers are focused on making the “latest and greatest” wifi to garner more sales. In doing so, they often create...

    GT-AX6000 vs RT-AX86U ??

Well crap, eero pushed out another update and yes, you guessed it, it broke my smooth running network. I give up. I put my old trusty RT-AC86U back online and my network is back up. The good thing, the AC86U was still setup so it was just a plug and play operation. I am just staying with the...

    GT-AX6000 vs RT-AX86U ??

Well, it looks like I will be sending back the AX86U-Pro next week. Yea, big surprise :) :) The one recurring issue with Asus is their wifi simply does not work as reliably on "MY" network as the old eero Pro units I have. I wonder if the Qualcomm radios in the eero Pro is the reason for...
