Brute force attack although ports forwarding activated

Personally, with multiple NAS vendors being hit hard with ransomware attacks I would disable all dmz, upnp and port forwarding. I know your ssh was the target but you may be exposing yourself to other attacks (search on "deadbolt ransomware" for example). The safer approach is to connect to a...

    Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.49703 (07-20-2022)

"Superior" is subjective. Merlin adds options not found in stock. Stock may have security fixes Merlin doesn't yet. Etc

    Terrible write performance

You should check out the QNAP community forum. Many things to check including antivirus. What are you using to determine the actual write speed vs a network, client issue?

    Building a home server/network rack

[Holding back my comments - don't know if we should be discussing your sister's rack in this forum] :)

AX86S - two different spec power adapters from two sealed routers. Only keeping one, but which PSU to choose?

Although discussed to death already :) for my usage, I prefer power bricks and not wall warts. They are just "easier" IMO as access to the wall plug (although different in UK and Europe) tends to be an issue, particularly when plugging into a UPS that often crams the sockets very close to other...

FBI investigation determined Chinese-made Huawei equipment could disrupt US nuclear arsenal communications.

Not sure that "General Network Security" is the place for this, most of is don't have nuclear arsenals at home :)

    ‎‎‎‎‎‎‎no title

Most devices allow you to set the randomized MAC addressing off. If you can do that, then you could implement an "allow" list instead of a "deny" list of MAC addresses.

    Q: Asus App 2022 Version

I've never even loaded it. Never had a reason to. Similarly, I've never used any of the QNAP apps for their NAS products. Maybe I'm old school, I like the web GUI.

Cant reach a wireless Raspberry PI from an ethernet desktop.

Hard to know if both posters 1 and 2 are experiencing the same thing. My response was more for the first one, where more detail may be required. I agree with you though, the second one, involving a ping, may be a more complex issue. Perhaps knowing which O/S is running on the Pi may shed some...

    What's going on with Rogers?

Unfortunate to hear. I had mine on all day and had no issues for a change.

Cant reach a wireless Raspberry PI from an ethernet desktop.

I use static IP addresses for all my server or server-like (rasp pi) devices. You can then add entries in your hosts file (if you prefer"hostnames") or access them directly by IP. Makes life a lot simpler

    What's going on with Rogers?

Indeed. It was refreshing to be able to watch the news without it stuttering and freezing. It will be interesting to see what the CRTC turns up, or Roger's response or whatever. I was confused by the news saying Roger's had not stated what the outage was caused by as the CEO email had...

Beneficial to do factory reset after firmware update?

Back "in the day", when configuration files first became a "thing", they often contained serial numbers and other such unique information. The real value in that was it made some device easier to "hack" by using common serial numbers to share paid apps and such. Asus config files, as I...

    What's going on with Rogers?

Still having issues as of tonight despite Rogers closing my ticket saying it was resolved. I'd say it is now "mostly watchable" but video and /or audio stutters and pauses every 3-4 minutes. Will see how it is by tomorrow morning and get back into the support queue of it hasn't improved. I feel...

    What's going on with Rogers?

I did make it sound a bit more dramatic than it actually was. There are many free wifi locations we could have used, and my brother is an "all Bell" guy, so we could have gone there, or picked up a pay as you go card etc, in the end, we just watched some of the 15TB of tv we had previously...

    What's going on with Rogers?

Although our cell and internet services were back as of about 3am today, our Ignite TV service is still unwatchable, so not "back up and running". We are able to get a few frames of video every 10-15 minutes. This is both on the Roger's "box" and via their Ignite TV app (via cellular from a...

How to send http request in user script?

Probably because these arent really scripting commands per se. Most people working in Unix/Linux know by now to use a proper editor and even windows has gotten better about this so "dos2unix" is rarely a common issue. Once run once, there is no need to run it again (do your editing in Linux or...

    UDP VPN Port

Two things to note. Technically, 1194 isn't a "range", it's a single port :) "Safe" is not the correct word. Even "safer" doesn't necessarily apply. For obvious reasons, opening **ANY** port puts your systems at *some* risk. Even VPN software can have vulnerabilities. You didn't specify what...

    Broken power button

In my case, I only use it to power cycle the device, it stays on 24/7. You could couple if with a smart power bar that shuts off the port unless a minimum draw is present or a "smart switch" which also comes in handy under certain circumstances. also use something like this to control the...

Sonos and USB attached HDD drive issue.

You could pickup a cheap 1 or 2 bay basic NAS. Personally, I don't believe in running a bunch of "extras" on my router. I want it to do as little extras as required and focus all resources solely to doing what it should, route IP traffic.
