[Beta 382] Asuswrt-Merlin 382.2 Beta is now available

Back during a previous transition from one SDK to another, 378 -> 380, the 5GHz radio was useless on my RT-AC68U if I installed any 380 version firmware. This went on for MONTHS. One day, after Merlin released his next 380 build, I decided to try again, but this time, I thought to try changing...

[Alpha] Pre-release test builds available (both 380 and 382 branches)

The core functions of the build may be rock solid, but extras like Adaptive QoS may have issues. If one does not use any of those problematic extras, stable is an appropriate description.

    Netgear Firmware Update for X4S R7800 (1.0.2.40)

"It works for me" is not always helpful, but it can mean there is something not quite right somewhere if things can work for others. I am new to Netgear wireless routers, so I am playing it safe for now. My recently purchased R7800 had 1.0.2.36 installed which I immediately upgraded to...

IFTTT - how much do you care about security?

Wow....unless the security problems with allowing WAN access to webui have been resolved, this is a disaster.

    RT-AC5300 lack of updates

One would think that with common code for nearly all wireless routers, a patch to Asuswrt would result in a firmware release for all. The RT-AC5300 not having an update since 2017/06/15 is concerning.

    [OFFICIAL] RT-AC68U 3.0.0.4.382.18547

Same here. Decided to give this first, official release from Asus for the RT-AC68U a try while waiting for Merlin to offer his version. It works, so far, but I don't ask too much from my router.

    ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 (Owners)

That makes sense, but expensive, top-tier products should be given some priority or else you create negative marketing. One can rationalize all day for Asus, but ultimately it is results that matter.

    [Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 380.68 is available

While you may think the media bridge mode strange, using my RT-N66U as a media bridge to my RT-AC68U for, ironically, assorted media devices has been great. It extends the useful life of a perfectly good, older, wireless router. Running 380.68_4 on both devices and all is well. Many thanks to...

[Beta] Asuswrt-merlin 380.68 Beta is now available

Is this a new record for sheer quantity of changes for a minor release? Great job as always, Merlin. Everything is working just fine.

    Anti-probing protection

Firewalling every client is the only way to hinder probing . There is no way to stop a client from probing the local network, especially if other clients are broadcasting packets over the air.

I want to buy router for 1Gbps internet

If you would rather not go down the "build your own Linux firewall" rabbit hole, I hear the new Asus BRT-AC828 is more than capable of 1Gbps throughput. Not sure if you can buy one yet...

[Security] - reminder to stay secure

The ideal security device specializes in one thing - security. It is not fear mongering to recommend best practices for your router, especially when nothing stops an uninformed person from allowing WAN connections to ssh/webgui.

Best router for a symmetric Gigabit connection

As long as the OE is comparable to what the customer would purchase in terms of functionality and can deliver the advertised throughput for the subscribed service, then everyone wins. That has not proven to be true in my experience, so I let my RT-AC68U be an access point while my "retired"...

    Greetings from backstage

Get yourself well, Eric. Take as long as you need to be 100% again.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.57 is now available

CIDR format for this would be 8.8.0.0/16.

    The rmerlin donation thread.

Another donation for you, Eric. Thanks for the work you have done. Your customized firmware should be the official ASUSWRT.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.57 is now available

100% surmising. Without analyzing a hex dump of NVRAM before and after a factory reset, I can only speculate. As I stated about my RT-N66U problem (with additional info), upgrading to firmware with a new SDK, resetting to factory defaults, manually entering all parameters, testing with a...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.57 is now available

Resetting from the GUI as mentioned in the linked post did not fully erase NVRAM as my experience would imply. However, the post in general is quite good for those less informed than I.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.57 is now available

Back when Broadcom released SDK6 for the RT-N66U, it caused very odd behavior for me on the 5GHz radio making it unusable. Resetting to factory defaults did not make any difference. I stuck with firmware that used the SDK5 drivers for months. After several newer firmware releases with the...

    Win10 - ASUS USB-56AC adapter

Thanks for the info. I will try this out after I get my Windows 7 laptop upgraded to Windows 10. Edit: Windows 10 upgrade complete. USB-AC56 device detected and drivers installed. Seems to be working fine.
