[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

@arthurlien I just tried downloading the new firmware (3.0.0.4.384.20379) for my RT-AC3100 from the official Asus website at (https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/RT-AC3100/HelpDesk_BIOS/). The file downloads fine, but I cannot open it, as I get a CRC error. I've downloaded it a half a dozen...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I just noticed the other day that the mesh seems to be showing up as individual clients on my client list, one for each wifi band, but under the same IP address. It didn't do this before, I haven't updated to the new firmware that was just updated, and I didn't change any settings. It didn't do...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

So it basically makes the most efficient node/router connection it can in a wireless environment, which in turn could effect the overall performance of connected clients. I suppose that makes sense in theory, but how significant those differences are I think may be more theoretical in many cases...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Yes and no. I mean, I get what it's doing, but I don't get the practical benefit that comes from it. The one node goes down, so the client has to reconnect to the third. If the client is calling the shots to begin with, it has no choice but to switch to the third node (or the router, depending)...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

But, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's still the client that has to determine what, if anything, to do. So even if there is some kind of backend stuff going on with the mesh, it may or may not actually help in real world performance, is what I'm seeing. I mean, I would expect that if one of my...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Damn, that's an awesome article. I can't say all of it was fully digested by my brain, but it was pretty easy to understand overall. I found this nugget particularly relevant: That, to me, pretty much confirms what I initially thought: that "mesh" is largely, if not completely, a marketing...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Yes. AiMesh sets everything the same. I see no way to change the nodes independently.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I've seen arguments for both sides. I know I used to have APs on different channels and it worked fine. My brother's repeater, however, uses the same channel. From a practical POV, I don't know that it matters, at least in my experience.

Thanks. Let me know if you need anything else.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Agreed. I've raised it here a few times and have had no response. I'd assume it can't be exploited since it's not enabled at the router and the node should just "pass it through," but why it can't be disabled completely is a bit odd. I know it needs to be on to pair a node, but you should be...

Nor can you WPS, it would seem. I've disabled on router with both bands, but 2.4 on node still shows WPS enabled during WiFi scan.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.10007 for All Supported Products

I just submitted feedback using the feedback option in the app. I referenced you and this exchange on this forum in said feedback. As mentioned, this is not a recent issue, but has been ongoing for the past year, since whatever firmware version was installed on my AC3100 out of the box. The IP...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Well, now I feel like slightly less of a dumb butt for not knowing what he was talking about. I know my way around a computer, but networking and Linux are two things I don't have any real knowledge on. We've just combined them. I'm sure some people just rolled their eyes, groaning while I said...

Yeah, you already lost me. I don't know about any of that stuff. I mean, I kinda know what it t is, but what to find it, what to look for, how to write a script to save and load it... no idea.

I understood some of those words. Any hand holding guides out there for people like me that can follow directions but don't know how to do what you just said?

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Well, if it was as simple as backing up and loading settings before/after an update, it wouldn't be an issue. But, as pointed out, that's basically the same as just leaving all the settings intact after an update, except with an extra step. If there is some way to save more basic settings, so I...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Agreed on the last point. Stuff like that should be a no brainer. Why should we have to re-input all that basic level stuff for every update? That's insane. If Asus can implement some way to back up more basic settings prior to a factory reset, that would be amazing.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

Well, I'll start. In my case, the device that seems to drop Netflix while roaming is an LG G Pad X 8.0. It's a cheap Android tablet that I bring all over the house for browsing, using with Netflix, Plex, and other casting apps to my Chromecasts. I do have laptops, but I don't really walk them...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

No, I didn't do a factory reset on my router when I upgraded, because, yes, it's a pain. It seems to be working fine, so I'm not keen to reset, but it does explain the RA setting differences, for sure. Honestly, the instructions always say to factory reset after a firmware upgrade (not just...

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

That pretty much mirrors my experience with Netflix. Though I would have thought the Netflix app would have a larger buffer to allow for a smooth transition, when my signal strength drops and it moves from router to node (or vice versa), the connection stops and the video is interrupted, because...
