Random freezing of router RT-AC68U firmware 380.57_0

The only other thing I recall is the person who had the usb issue mentioned it happened when the usb cable was plugged in the port nearest the Ethernet ports. That probably didn't help. Guess it's not under warranty any more?

    RT-AC88U wireless coverage issues?

I had to both find the clearest channel (through trial & error) and set it to 20MHz, as well as position the router as centrally as possible, all that, to get good coverage in my house. To relocate the router, I got a couple 25 foot flat cat 6 cables from Walmart, ran them under a carpet so I...

    ASUS RT-AC3100 flipping out

Maybe the more these wireless routers are tweaked for better performance that the more susceptible they are to the same issues we've always had - interference, obstacles. Particularly AC routers that use more and more of the available 5GHz bands simultaneously. That and firmware always takes...

Asus RT-AC68U locks itself from time to time.

OK, I got nothin' else at this time. Good luck.

Asus RT-AC68U locks itself from time to time.

OK, just good for thought. What about interference? Other wireless gear (comcast equipment can ruin hotspots known to interfere), microwaves, baby monitors, alarm systems, phones, keyboards, mice, headsets, Bluetooth devices, etc?

Asus RT-AC68U locks itself from time to time.

There's been two recent threads with folks experiencing weird router problems, including locking up. One turned out seemingly to be related to bad router location and the other apparently from interference caused by a usb cable plugged into the router. Just something to consider. For some...

    WiFi Problem with Merlin?

Probably best to start with the base config, make sure that works. Then change one thing at a time do if it goes wrong, you know what the "last thing touched" was.

    Is someone using my router

There's no way to be sure it's a WPS problem, but it's certainly a likely suspect. Keep an eye on it and report back if the issue shows up again. Good luck Transformed.

    ASUS RT-AC3100 flipping out

In my experience location is a big deal with wireless gear. If the grill was metal then that could cause problems. It was listed as mistake #1 in something I recently read in the blog listed below. Here's the relevant passage: "Mistake 1 • Access points with integrated omni-directional antennas...

    Is someone using my router

WPS has a history of security flaws. I'm not sure if it's safe to use even today. I've seen some devices that require it. Probably best to turn it on when if needed then back off.

That's fine, I wasn't serious either, sure didn't to start a war over it. Post on...

    ASUS RT-AC3100 flipping out

Could be, still pretty long. I'm on a phone with tapatalk and don't see that click to expand option.

Then why quote it so it's doubled! [emoji12]

Coming over to "AC" from RT-N66. Looking for suggestions

Agreed The advantages of newer AC routers are: Bonding more and more of the limited supply of 5GHz channels together for greater throughout/speed and improved technology for improved 5GHz range. Of course you'd need upgraded client hardware to take advantage of that. I've seen some statements...

Coming over to "AC" from RT-N66. Looking for suggestions

I had relatively recent experience with the xfinity interference issue so it was high on my list of suspects. Having that Netgear N600 (WNDR3700) 802.11N router available should provide the needed 2.4 base hit. I wondered about that as well. Seemed implied that it wasn't an issue but not sure...

Coming over to "AC" from RT-N66. Looking for suggestions

I guess you're right, to minimize interference. I was just remembering what I did way back when. But now that I think about it, I did it that way because mine was a completely wireless extender so I had to do it that way. So, right, in this situation, different channels. Thanks for catching that.

Coming over to "AC" from RT-N66. Looking for suggestions

I read the Amazon reviews of the powerline device. The reviews were overall positive but quite a number of scathing shots at the wireless piece. Really nothing but positive for the Ethernet adapter itself. Many seemed happy just to get wireless access in dead spots but a lot of complaints about...

Coming over to "AC" from RT-N66. Looking for suggestions

First thing I'd try is unplugging the repeater & testing to see if that might help. If not then another router as you suggested should help. Don't think an ac router will help the 2.4GHz and your 5GHz is pretty good already.
