    Migrate RT-AC68U to RT-AC86U

Wow. That pce-ac88 almost costs as much as the rt-ac86u. After reading comments in this forum many years ago, I gave up on wireless entirely and decided to wire my entire house with Cat6. That old dwa 556 is a remnant of days long past. It was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's...

    Migrate RT-AC68U to RT-AC86U

I just tested my RT-AC66U going through three walls at about 60 feet. Client is a Win7 PC using a dwa 556 xtreme wireless-n adapter (300 Mbps max). Tx is turned all the way up in Merlin. 2.4 GHz Read 5.18 MB/s down and write 2.56 MB/s up @ -66 dB (20 MHz) And then tested an Intel NUC with AC...

    AiMesh support

It's my understanding that wired access points are preferred. Mesh devices communicate with one another, passing the data down the line, from one to the next, back to the router. Every "hop" between mesh devices reduces the bandwidth by half. Would it be possible to use AIMesh with two...

    Migrate RT-AC68U to RT-AC86U

That's great to hear. My RT-AC86U arrives tomorrow. One of the reasons I got it is due to the weak 5GHz coverage of my RT-AC66U. To top it off, 2.4GHz is so saturated in my neighborhood that it's practically useless as enough people have now caught on and are using channels 3 and 9.

    Migrate RT-AC68U to RT-AC86U

Did you scan for open channels prior to setting up the RT-AC86U? Nearly all of the default channels for 2.4GHz and 5GHz in my neighborhood are saturated due to home users buying routers and just plugging them in and never checking. It may be the same case for you. Straight out of the box...

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

Firstly, thanks for all the hard work, RMerlin, past and present. I burned my WRT54g like Jimi Hendrix many years ago after discovering Asuswrt-Merlin and have never looked back. I'll take your expert advice and wait for the next release. I see there were a lot of fixes from the linked thread...

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

Really? Sweet! I'll load up the alpha when it arrives this Friday. Thanks! I was concerned about updating the stock firmware anyway, as I've heard that on some other models, upgrading the stock firmware can make the installation of Merlin difficult if not impossible later down the line. I have...

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

Best of all, it doesn't look like a toy alien spaceship... well, less so than the RT-AC5300, anyway. I thought that that was necessary for "blazing speeds", kind of like a flame job on a 1940's roadster. I'm sold. I'm putting one on order now. I'm gonna miss the policy based routing feature...
