    Advice on home network installation

You'll find other active discussions about what a mesh means. It is not just wireless. Mesh is a topology. What is being sold as mesh for the consumer market is really just a star or hybrid star with a bridge/repeater. Again, that discussion is active elsewhere. I personally prefer using AP...

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

Do you have any "site survey" information for the area in question. For instance, here's my Family Room area for 5GHz. I have my main router upstairs in my wiring closet which is slightly offset to center. My Family room is beneath but a little offset to one side. I've got long narrow...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

Correct but I never said wireless mesh and neither did others. They said MESH and they also said you can't have a mesh with wires. I began building product for and deigning mesh networks in the 70's. There is probably still more mesh network deployed on wires than not, even in the cellular...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

IMO it still all boils down to that client is always the most important piece in the roaming equation AND you'll always see discrepancy in interpretation and implementation at the node device in consumer grade products. It's expensive to actually test and "certify" these technologies and given...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

THAT is just not true. MESH is a topology, not a technology. And if you want to go down this rabbit hole, very few products are implementing a mesh as a mesh typically implies one OR MORE paths (typically 2 minimum) for routing and best path/neighbor selection in near real time. What is being...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

Give that man a kewpee doll. THIS is what I've been stressing both above and in other threads/venues. Plus AiMesh by design makes things worse. All radios set to the same frequencies and if using wireless backhaul they must be close enough together for the connection to perform at or near...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

I've got a router and 4 APs (sometimes 5 for the far yard in the nicer weather) and if you add up all the TVs, thermostats, AVRs, streaming boxes, laptops, phones, tablets, cameras, garage doors, outlets and other misc items I'll bet I have about 75 potential wireless clients in the house plus...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

The answer IMO is there should be no reason why it shouldn't!!!!

@RMerlin - that added functionality would presumably be included and as effective/useful in AP mode end points as well. Do you agree? Obviously this assumes a client with said enabled functionality as well.

I'm unclear as to what point you're trying to make. Can you clarify? Those features aren't necessarily exclusive to AiMesh

    Advice on home network installation

Ya, it's more difficult and I had missed anything said about plaster/lathe. They make special old work boxes for that and I find the vibrating cutter tools work the best to make the holes. That said, if they're opening the wall to do electric then it should be open between two studs and that...

    Advice on home network installation

Put the CAT cabling and the COAX in a separate box from the electric. Go to the opposite stud or the other side of the same stud. You can always use "old work" boxes if need be. Easy Peasy! https://www.homedepot.com/s/old%20work%20electrical%20box?NCNI-5

    Advice on home network installation

In every room that you upgrade the wiring and/or open the walls, if possible have at least 2 of the most currently available CAT wiring to at least one box in each room. If possible do 2 or more locations in each room. Have them all run back to a common location in the house. I personally...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

No I did not give up too soon and again, I NEVER said wires were required. I also never said you had to manage frequencies, I merely pointed out that it was available in one scenario and not another. The mere fact that the same frequencies MUST be used on ALL radios for ALL nodes is an obvious...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

OK but you first commit to taking a reading comprehension class. 1) NEVER said it had to be wired, I said it must be dedicated to backhaul - "beit wired and/or a third radio" 2) Tri-band router is exactly what I suggested - what do you think the reference to 3rd radio is all about? - "beit...

Really disappointed with AiMesh, I switched to something else

IMO, any mesh implementation that does not have a dedicated backhaul, beit wired and/or a third radio, will have quirks and issues which for me would be very unattractive and limiting over a bridge or other time tested solution. It's all marketeering.

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

I"m not saying it's your problem but I just noticed you said your routers are 2-3 feet apart. Put some more distance between them. OH, make sure you're not sitting in the middle :) Also, if you're working with stock firmware, open a ticket up with ASUS. If you're not using stock firmware, do...

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

My mistake, I thought you already had everything connected via wired backhaul. As you can tell, I'm not a fan of AiMesh after my struggles with it. It's not an optimal solution for a two radio device. Personally, I'd wait it out until I could run the wire. Don't know why the weather is...

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself because you're not convincing me. As I've said multiple times. You're the one who said professionals only want a simple solution. I simply responded. Now you want to tell me why professional wouldn't use consumer grade equipment. You won't get...

AiMesh - 5ghz-2 is now dedicated backhaul after recent firmware? (wired backhaul)

This is the furthest thing from the truth. Most professional installations have management systems and multiple SSIDs would be no extra work at all. They do it because it provides the best overall user experience as well as use/performance of the network. Again, if you're happy with those...
